Great app

This app is gorgeous. It's cleaner and faster than any other RSS app available for Mac.

The two concerns raised by previous reviewers annoy the heck out of me:

First, support for Google Reader is not promised by this app. And not really needed or welcome, as far as I'm concerned. While I use Google Reader for a few feeds on my iPhone, using it to manage and monitor hundreds of feeds is a pain. Plus, I really don't need Google any more involved in my reading/surfing habits than it already is, thank you very much. :)

Secondly, the amount of information provided from a given feed is entirely up to the content provider... not this app.

Simple and elegant RSS reader

I've been using NewsFire for years and have been quite happy with it. Typically what I do is scan through new items, clicking on the ones I'm interested in and having the articles open in the background in my web browser of choice. NewsFire can easily be set up to do this. The app has a simple and elegant interface, does what it is supposed to, and is very robust and stable. It is also refreshing that the program does not require a Google Reader account (Google already knows too much about me, so I am perfectly happy with the lack of integration).

Newsfire: clean & fast

Newsfire doesn't sync (or claim to sync) with Google Reader, which is fine by me, as I don't use the service. I prefer Newsfire for my news/blog reading much more: clean, easy interface, and a small desktop footprint. The feeds can be exported into an OPML file, which can then be imported into whatever regular RSS reader one may use on iPad or iPhone. I paid & upgraded to 2.0 (which wasn't necessary as 1.6 was perfectly fine) just to show my appreciation to the software developers.
