This sleeping aid app makes your iPhone emit a gendle, relaxing blue light, that pulsates at the natural respiration rate. Lie in bed with your eyes open and inhale and exhale in sync with the blue light. The app will guide you to sleep by gendly slowing down your respiration rate. This will help you relax and fall asleep fast. After the session ends the app shuts down and you continue to sleep.

This app perfectly implements the pattern and light of the more expensive (and I assume unaffiliated) device. For 1/50th of the cost of that device, this app has given me the best night of sleep I've had in a very long time. I spent $2k on a new mattress, and this little $1 app solved my insomnia. I was leery at first afraid this would somehow interrupt sleep or give me headaches but it simply lulls me into a very natural sleep. I set it for 14 minutes but I imagine less than 7 would do. Some nights I just could not quit thinking long enough to go to sleep. This is a great help!
It works!! Just the same way you unconsciously sync your breathing with someone else's when you're lying next to them, you start breathing in time with the light. I've never made it the whole 7 minutes. I think blue was a good choice of color too.
