"Niko and the Sword of Light is quite the delight. It tells a fun story and backs it up with some stunning visuals and great voice work." Jennifer Allen, 148 apps
This version includes the first three chapters for free with the option of an 'in app purchase' to unlock the full app.
A boy alone, lost in a savage land ruled by darkness. His people gone. His kingdom a smoldering ruin. His only hope is the Sword of Light; a magical relic, forged by the ancient gods - and the only thing powerful enough to return his land to freedom…
"Niko and the Sword of Light" is our first fully animated comic book on the iPad. Inspired by a love of comics, movies, and adventure stories, the epic tale of Niko is all three combined into one intense interactive experience. This mythical tale will take you through awe-inspiring landscapes full of wondrous characters and monstrous beasts conceived of by the minds of Imaginism Studios -- character designers for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) -- and the innovative 2D animation house, StudioNX. "Niko and the Sword of Light" truly is the first of its kind and bridges the gap between static comics and animated films. Complete with movie voice actors and a modern cinematic score featuring DJ Yoda, this is one app you will want to pick up again and again!

What's New in Version 1.1.6
This version adds the much-requested auto-play feature!
It also includes several bug-fixes.
Well executed; terrible story
Top-notch animation, and an engaging, pleasant interface. Well-above-average voice acting, too.
Unfortunately, the story is hackneyed, boring, cheesy, and in general poorly written. An embarrassment to have such a piece of trash story at the heart of an otherwise sell-executed app. I cam only assume the high production values obscure the poor narrative and writing; no other way to account for the mostly positive reviews. Of course, that's a formula that's worked for Hollywood: blockbuster glitz and don't pay for a decent writer. It seems to be working here, too, but for those who appreciate good fiction in any media, please give this one a miss!
My daughter and I immensely enjoyed Niko. As others wrote, the animation style is is very very well executed. Beautiful to the eyes and easy to navigate, based on the version we had. Only wish is that the chapters would have been more clearly marked as we speeded right through it all and didn't realize we were at the very end until the credits started to roll! Hopefully there will be more installments in the Niko universe. Love it.
As a comic book enthusiast, I've been waiting to see how a comic with motion and audio would be completed. This is a worthwhile result.
Art and animation are exceptional. Voice acting and sound effects are above average. Music is interesting. Story is merely average.
I can definite recommend this app to comic book fans. I will look for more stories like this, and I'm expecting to see more publishers follow suit.
