Ratings and Reviews
The functionality of this app should be handled through an outside vendor that would be in a position to adapt to market needs and development issues faster. NJT should be setting the requirements for the vendor but leaving the development and operations (including security) to a third party while ensuring appropriate recourse against the third-party in the event of a failure.
This app could be improved by integrating Apple Wallet or similar functions across devices. This app is hamstrung by its dependence on wireless connectivity, which may or may not be available. The app is clunky, takes a while to load, and does not offer useful customization.
This app also could benefit from integrating an outside mapping service to offer better transit options across-routes and methods of transit. E.g., when a train line is not operating normally, a customer would be able to select from other modes of transit from within and without the NJT system that might offer better alternatives. The app should be focused on optionality and making the customer experience as easy and convenient as possible. This goes back to NJT setting the requirements (its needs) rather than developing and supporting a software product in-house.
Worse than the commute itself
It’s as if they chose the user experience by dumping all possible function ideas into a hat and deciding what the interface should be by pulling one out to use for each part of the decision tree. No coherence, no consistency between utilities and certainly no direct or intuitive path to get to what you need. Can we make a two step process six? Let’s do it. Should someone type in a destination or scroll through 70 towns to get to a schedule? Scrolling takes longer—lets do that! You want a schedule? Going to need the origin, destination, travel date and departure time and only then will we give em the next two departure, forget about an actual, you know, schedule. From top to bottom it’s like Torquemada went to the technical career institute and this was his class project.

Was about to catch a bus. Decided to download a movie before leaving home. Checked my favorite list for bus time. Bus in 15 min! Ok let me download movie. Selected and hit download.. Sat for a few seconds and come back with error. Not enough room on device. Selected ok... Went to check favorites to see about bus and ALL my favorite were gone! Ran to bus once on added 2 routes to list. Then tried download movie again. Same error checked favorites and again they were gone!
