Waste of $10
Normally, I don’t mind spending some money to try out techy products whether it’s spendy or cheap. I like to try have a little fun with any new tech products out there because you never know what you’ll find but wow, this was a waste of money and time.
Light bulb disconnects continuously. When you go to use it or turn it off the light the app is NEVER working. Even when you remove the device and reconnect it rarely ever works. I, manually, have to turn off the lamp with the switch on the lamp ( 1st world problem, yes, but it is one of the features) because not even the wall switch will turn it off, which is how we’ve always used this lamp.
I did give it two stars because the colors are rather fun and work as they should. The colors that come from the bulb are brighter than expected.
The ability to put it to music is worthless even when music is loud.
I guess if your only looking for the option to change colors of your light, if app will stay connected long enough to change it, then this maybe worth it (as long as you can deal with removing and adding the app constantly to change the color). As for the ease of turn on and off a light, don’t get this one. There’s no reliability in this product/app whatsoever. On to the next fun tech product to try, this one is going to the trash!
Bulb/App needs a little work, overall good
For a $5 bulb at Target, this isn’t too bad, some of the features clearly didn’t go through beta testing though. Music compatibility doesn’t work for anything, I’ve tried multiple times to play music and have it sync to the bulbs to no avail, and the “shake phone for random color” feature doesn’t work either. It would be one thing if these weren’t included but they are clearly written on the box as perks for this specific bulb, so I was expecting it to perform properly.
The bulbs disconnect randomly, but their color stays where you left it so that’s good. Reconnecting is not difficult, just a bit annoying, but again, for a $5 Bluetooth color changing bulb, it’s alright.
I will definitely be looking into other better bulbs that actually work as they are described, however. This was a $5 impulse buy, and I probably won’t buy this brand again unless they make improvements.
You Could Do Better
When I got this at Target, I was excited because it sounded cool in concept, and it works fine if you want the ability to change the light’s color. However, I find the light to be too dim for my room when it’s set to “white” on maximum brightness. The white is more of a light sky blue, and the CFL I had in my lamp before lit my room much better than this bulb. While the color changing works, that’s about all it can do. The app mentions being able to change colors to music and by shaking your phone to set it to a random color, but neither work. I didn’t try the timer, as it’s not what I’d bought this for, but from other reviews I’ve seen, it only allows you to set it for up to 30 minutes.
In short, it doesn’t fully deliver on what it is advertising, and it can barely light up a room. A CFL or incandescent bulb does a better job. It’s a decent gimmick, but it has too many flaws in my opinion to be worth buying.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
