Organize everything in one place. NotePlan is a unique combination of calendar, notes and to-do list with iCloud Calendar Events and Reminders integration.
“Hey. First I’d like to say that NotePlan made me rethink the way note/calendar app should look, feel and work. Thank you. It totally changed the way I write down my plans and tasks.” - Vladimir
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
1. Capture Your Thoughts
Open up today and get things off your mind. Quickly capture anything important: to-dos, details, journal entries, quotes, etc. Your mind works much better if you write down everything and don’t have to hold it in your memory.
2. Plan Your Day
Organise your tasks for the day by structuring them into headings and lists to get clarity and an overview of what needs to be done - Today. “Ultra-productive people don’t work from a to-do list, but they do live and work from their calendar.” - Forbes
3. Organize Your Projects
Create project notes for each of your goals, then schedule the to-dos into your calendar. Manage your calendar events & reminders alongside your to-dos to plan your time effectively.
4. Setup Your Routines
Establish daily routines that minimize decision making and free up your mental resources to tackle the important things. Create repeating reminders and events you do every day, week or month.
5. Review and Re-Schedule
Chances are, at the end of the day some to-dos are still open or you collected a few ideas which need your attention. Take your time and review them at the end of the day or week and make a quick decision: cancel, re-schedule or finish them right now.
WHAT ELSE IS NOTEWORTHY?
1. Your Notes, Not Our’s
NotePlan saves and syncs all your notes in plain-text files securely on your iCloud Drive. We can’t see your notes, events, reminders or anything else. Events and Reminders are integrated with your iCloud account.
2. It’s Distraction-Free
NotePlan gets out of your way with a minimalistic design. It’s just you and your day. Tools are tucked away into a custom toolbar and you can use simple, adjustable Markdown to format your notes and to-dos.
3. It Gives You a Bird’s Eye View
The weekly and monthly calendar gives you an overview of your tasks. Days in the past will be marked if they still have open tasks. And a glimpse into the future days tell you what’s coming up.
4. It Combines Notes and Calendar
NotePlan allows you to work from notes and calendar at the same time, while giving you a glance at all the events and reminders of the day.
5. It Has Themes for Every Taste
Dark, light and everything in between. Select one of many themes to change the colors of the whole app, from clear white to elegant and complete black.

- NEW: Scheduling a parent todo will schedule the children todos (indented below the main todo) automatically too.
- FIXED: When NotePlan was restored from the background after not using it for a while, the current day will be opened.
- FIXED: Schedule all and the normal schedule function will not move everything to the selected day, but only the open todos.
- FIXED: Cursor position was wrong after pasting something, like a URL.
- FIXED: Emojis in the text caused text being cut off in the agenda view below the calendar.
- FIXED: Special characters like slash (/) and dot (.) were stripped off in the notes list. Now they work.
- FIXED: Repeating todos from general notes was not working.
Ratings and Reviews
Version 2.0 is excellent
As a person who is always looking for a better way to keep up with all the stuff I have to do, I have tried most to-do apps. The simplicity of NotePlan’s approach makes it the winner in this category for me. There’s something about having an official, discrete note for each day that just clicks with me. The manual act of rescheduling items is an automatic opportunity to re-evaluate what’s really important and decide when I actually intend to tackle each task. I can include as many or as few details as I care to when I enter an item since it’s all just plain text. The app automates enough of the process to be a help, but it doesn’t force me to use it in any particular way. It’s very flexible.
Version 2.0 is a great improvement. The interface is smooth and snappy and the themes look great. I like the way the Markdown in the actual notes is rendered in the agenda view. It perfectly blends the simplicity of Markdown with the polish and visual appeal of a more formatted presentation. I can write my notes any way I care to, and then NotePlan makes them look nice when I just need to quickly review my daily list or check off an item.
The developer is very responsive and has put a lot of thought into the UI/UX. Because of his commitment, I expect NotePlan to get even better in the future. But v2.0 is already a great step in the right direction.
An app that does exactly what I need
I loved NotePlan before, but with all the work done for version 2, I have been able to use just one app for most of my day. And within that one app, I can navigate everywhere very easily from my Today note where I have my running list of todos. I can see all my calendar events and reminders right in the today note, there’s a handy jump button to notes, arrows to get back to where I was before, pull down to create an event/reminder, touch the top of the screen from anywhere to get to Today, see todos from a note and quickly get to that note by touching the title. And everything is plain text, so my notes take hardly any storage and everything exports and shares easily to anywhere.
Finally, an app I’ve that does exactly what I want.
You see, I love the idea of using Apple calendar, Reminders, numbers and anything by apple to operate my life on as it syncs with all my devices.
But Calendars is missing a simple cross off todo list which is very annoying because I have list of things I have to do that day and there’s no way for me to do that. With Reminders, your able to build a to do list. However, when you cross off an item on the list, it disappear. This is annoying because I like seeing things I have done wit the things I haven’t done yet right in front of me.
The biggest problem I have is that you can’t combine the two calendar and reminder app Apple has to offer. But with NotePlan it does exactly that!! Also you can write notes attached to your to do list.
Not to mention there are multiple dark themes to choose from, which I absolutely love because this makes it so much easier on the eyes.
Thank you NotePlan!!!!
I have both desktop and mobile app. Works beautifully!
