Absolutely brilliant for composing

The app is fantastic for composing on the go, and you’ll get quite a good feel for the music with the sounds it produces even if occasionally those sounds aren’t as top notch as you might expect (though I have no complaints). Considering the power included in the app, it’s a great value for money, and the bundles aren’t overly expensive. Sure, some interface elements could be greatly improved, but overall, this is a perfect notation app, imho. You can even record or actually hand write the music.

I would guess that my only real complaints (apart from some minor interface and usability annoyances) are the time it took to download all the instruments (from the ALL Bundle), and that suddenly, after a while, and for no particular reason, it forced me to download all of the instruments again (waste of time –not cool), and that it crashes predictably when using certain instruments and articulations (though it saves often, thankfully). Also, the handwriting, though amazing, can be a bit gimmicky.

In conclusion, if you're looking for an app to compose music with, this is definitely it (and you can open the files on the desktop version as well which is awesome). It may be a bit confusing or overwhelming for those that don’t know music, but in my experience, even those with some concept of written music will get the gist of it and would enjoy using it. If you’re a professional, you’re probably already using this app. :)

Very Good !!!

8/3 Update to Handwriting features: After using the Handwriting part of this app a lot more over the last couple days I've found it to be very useful! The accuracy has improved, maybe because I have improved at using it or that it's learning (similar to Notateme app, but better) my writing style. Also I've found that it actually notates quicker (to a limit) the faster I write(?)! I know that sounds strange, but I find it to be true. And although I still believe it needs a larger writing area with on screen palm rejection added; I have found a comfortable way to rest my writing hand on the ipad so not to hit the tool bar at the bottom and even close the app sometimes. Nothing like it out there for iOS. 5 stars. Go for it!!

Overall a very good app! good sounds, good interface, iCloud, Dropbox...however you might want to wait on handwriting with Apple Pencil OR other stylus' ( no, you don't have to have a Apple Pencil)part to come out of its beta. Yes, I said beta even though it's not but at a $7.99 price it's not even close to prime time, otherwise it works okay, you just have be patient when first learning to understand its capabilities and sensitive ways...but regardless I've found in most cases it just easier to do without. I have one request from developers to work on a larger area for handwriting and an option to move tool pallet out of the way (top or side). I would recommend this app to a friend.

Great for iPhone. Very stable. Still waiting on proper slurr placement.

Love this app on the phone. What a value and very stable. I have used Notion on the Ipad and my Laptop for a few years so this was a welcome addition. My biggest gripe is still the way it forces slurrs above any multivoice staff, such as those used for classical and solo guitar music. They should allow an option to place them near their respective note heads. There are no slurrs on the tab at all, unless viewed alone without standard notation staff, then the stems get pretty cocky looking, as well as the slurrs still being improperly placed. We could do without the circles around the long notes in the tab. If there are separate voices on adjacent strings in the tab, the circles often overlap making things difficult to read. Tab rhythm should be above and below with such things down there and the option to turn it off and on. Slurrs on tab itself. All said, I can always import the .xml into another program and tweak, so I would rate the app 4.5 and round up to 5 stars, since nothing else comes close.
