NPR Station Finder
By Sam Vanderhyden
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
The NPR Station Finder is a simple utility that allows you to find Nation Public Radio stations that are available in your listening area, or an area for which you search. This application enables you to view a list of local NPR stations using the iPhone location service, or you can search for stations with a city, state or zip code. The NPR Station Finder is a useful utility when traveling or when you are in a new area and don't know the local radio stations.
***Note: The NPR Station Finder does not provide the ability to listen to radio***
What's New in Version 2
-Major UI updates
-Better location searching
-Added recently viewed stations tab
Does what it says. Simple, clean, no frills.
NPR Station Finder does one thing. It tells you what NPR stations are within listening range, and gives you the call sign and radio frequencies of each. It also lets you search by city, state or zip, but the location finder works flawlessly most of the time. In areas where you have spotty 3G access, a radio signal often will work better than a streaming signal through the iPhone, so just finding a station to tune is solved by this app. No problems with downloading it for me. I've been using it for quite a while with no problems.
Great for Travel
This app is going to be perfect when we travel in-and-out of listening areas. I have tried to write down stations on frequently traveled routes; now I can throw that paper away (which I never could find anyway)...and which was of no use on new trips. It does exactly what is promised!
Sweet and Simple
Simple app that does one thing very well. Works with the GPS in your phone to find all nearby NPR stations and gives you an indication of signal strength. Very useful on the road in that rented car when you want to listen to intelligent talk, classical music, or other NPR programming.
