Introducing City Notes, a new kind of travel guide. Instead of listing hundreds of obvious places to visit in each city, we've picked a handful of the best ones that are actually worth your time.
In this New York City guide, we've picked 20 great places, highlighting amazing restaurants, cool coffee shops and boutiques, interesting neighborhoods, and a few places to zone out.
Each place includes a short description, photos, neighborhood context, transit information, and a map that can help you get there. You can also share a "postcard" of each place with your friends via Twitter, Facebook, or e-mail. Help us make better guides by rating places with a simple and anonymous thumbs-up/down review.
Our goal is to help you travel better, with a simple, up-to-date list of the best places to go in each city. Whether you're visiting a city for a day, a week, or even if you live there, we hope you have a better time with City Notes.
What's New in Version 1.1

City Notes ❤ NY, and it’s easy to ❤ City Notes
In a new city, have you had better luck carrying: a warmed-over brick from the travel section, hours of “Internet research,” or a list of recommendations from a local friend? This is closest to the latter. Everything I’ve tried so far has been a winner—fresh and interesting without being daunting to a visitor. It advertises 20 picks, but they’re thoughtfully structured to include extra options in walking distance. It’s a city guide designed for the way cities are built.
The recommendations thin out above 34th, but the app never claimed to be an exhaustive survey; there are enough well-picked highlights to build a trip.
Great--even for native New Yorkers
Love the idea behind this app: less is more, high quality is better than mass produced. I'd gladly pay for more guidance in this format (gadget recos, book reviews, etc.). Content-wise, I've lived in NYC 10+ years and all these were great finds for me. To top it off: the developer was ultra-responsive when I asked him about status of a not-yet-covered city. He even offered to share in advance his notes. This one's a winner…and a great deal for the price.
This came in very handy during my too short stay in NYC. If you want a dense rundown of what the city has to offer, this may not be what you need. If you want the best of the best, this is an excellent resource. The NoMad was delish and such excellent service. The Highline area was awesome. Can't wait for further City Notes. New Orleans maybe? :)
