Well executed and improving greatly over time

I paid for the very first paid version of the NYT app and it was a good thing. It wasn't perfect, and often I felt I was missing the intangible feeling of browsing the paper edition because lesser stories or a missed day left me behind. Still, a great app then.

Fast forward to 2016 summer and each article ends with a set of four others you might want to read. I often find gems in the Stories You May Have Missed at the end of a section.

The use of multimedia has move from simple embedded video to sophisticated multi page presentations. A recent example explained what was so amazing about the Olympic contestants.

I am confident now that I am seeing all the news that is fit to print.

I am extremely irritated by inline ads, however, especially annoying videos or animated parts that distract. There should be an option to pay an extra dollar to rid us of these eyesores, and click bait that demean the Times. I never click the ads, and perhaps an made aware of brands but couldn't this be more subtle?

If the ads were more contextually relevant, maybe. If they were separate pages or sections we could either engage with or not maybe that would be ok. But just because motion works for advertisers doesn't mean we readers appreciate them

Still, with the Times, life would be far less rich and full. They are experimenting with new a new medium, and seem to be seeking new experiments all the time.

Functional (just) but disappointing

Upgraded to current version 2 days ago to eliminate crashing. Now the app is less responsive to screen taps on my iPad: it takes several taps to turn the page or bring up the Sections control. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Intrusive ads: I expect some ads but not the same stupid ones repeated over and over: i wouldn't mind seeing the actual ads that are in the print version, or at least tailor it to something I'm interested in (can you say Google ads? )

Solid NYT content but I would prefer almost any other alternative to this app if it gave me access to the same content. A disappointment more than anything else; I sincerely hope this is not the face of digital newspapers because it is sad if this is as good as it gets.

My go to app for reliable thoughtful information

I find the NY Times the only really reliable app for news and analysis. I daily learn something new about the world, innovations, companies, societal issues, political analysis, etc.
Readers' comments are almost always incredibly thought out and expressed. I'm glad I am retired so I have time to read so many of them.
I love the mini crossword puzzle and cooking section. I usually start my day with the NY Times, check in during day, and end my day with the Times.
Excellent app.
