What's New in Version 2.7.4
# Fixes and Features
- Optimized for iOS 10 - you must have iOS 9 or higher to get our future updates - be sure to update your OS to get all the new features!
- Fixed an issue where stats would incorrectly roll over on Sunday to show the upcoming week, resulting in Sunday stats never being displayed.
# Fun Facts
While IOS has appeared as an answer in the Daily Crossword 42 times in the Will Shortz era, the first time that it was clued in reference to Apple was just four years ago in September 2012 (some five years after the introduction of the operating system in 2007). Prior to that it had been clued as “Aegean island on which Homer is said to be buried” or “Colorful moths.”
Paid subscription not working - no support available
I paid for the annual subscription (a hefty app price for me but I did it, I love the work of the blessed Will Shortz that much). So I'm very frustrated that the subscription doesn't show up in the app. I've done a reinstall, subscription confirmation and every trick the internet can offer. No dice. Apple confirms my purchase but refers to the app developer for all other issues. The Times doesn't seem to offer any support. I'm directed to their main support line for the paper and they seem unable to offer any assistance. I'm sad, frustrated, puzzle-less and all I can confirm is: I was definitely charged but I got nothing for it.
Yes I get a fair amount of enjoyment from this app
But the constant dickering with stuff that doesn't matter to me like substandard easy packs of cute miniatures, rather than a timer that works properly, i.e., shuts off when you've solved correctly, and stats that keep on moving back up when you've just logged a series of below average solve times is really wearing out my good will. And yes my updates are all in order. I don't know of course, but isn't it pretty simple to write something to calculate averages?
Too, too expensive+app malfunctions now
Subscription has climbed from $20/year to $40/yr. Too much for buggy app that locks up frequently among other malfunctions since last upgrade (a pet peeve is constant over-design until the geeks break what worked before).
I also did not care about the constant promotion of mini puzzles while challenging packs were scarce.
Luckily my renewal time was close so I was able to cancel it.
This is a first world problem, however.
