Not the Times anymore.
I used to love this app. This morning's round had a FaceBook post on the main page. What? Content on the main page from Buzzfeed, WP, etc. seems to be the new normal for the app, despite the other tab clearly marked for 3rd party content. This decision doesn't keep me connected; it just shows how little the Times is contributing to the news. At least be honest about it by changing the tabs or the app description. Don't lead people to believe you're giving them your news when a quarter of your main page is from other websites. Their content strategy needs addressing, and their financial strategy is showing.
Now With Only 40% NYT Content
Seriously, this app is a joke. Nice design doesn't forgive the lack of content. NYT Now used to be an even split of New York Times stories and stories from other sites, divided into their own sections. But now they've started shoving those stories from other sites into the main NYT part of NYT Now, and you often don't know you're actually clicking on a Buzzfeed or Vox story until you suddenly find yourself on their site. Does the New York Times put so little value on their own journalism that they really feel the need to compensate by putting their competitors stories in their own app? It's just sad and unnecessary.
Used to love
I feel like NYT is abandoning this. Remember at launch when they talked about all the curation and care that would go into this? The content keeps getting reduced and there's way too much from other sources on the main page. Previous reviewer was SO right on about a post from a Facebook post this morning. I think the design and feature set is fantastic. But the content is sadly faltering. (When it is Times content and there is a wide variety it's great.)
