***New users: Thanks for choosing the new Dana II. Welcome to the family!***

A wise man once said "We are all at the mercy of our wild monkey minds. Incessantly swinging from branch to branch." With multiple windows and applications all vying for our attention, we have sadly adapted our working habits to that of the computer and not the other way around.

OmmWriter is a humble attempt to recapture what technology has snatched away from us today: our capacity to concentrate.

Voted as best new application by cultofmac users in 2009, OmmWriter is a tool that makes writing a pleasure again, allowing users to be alone with their thoughts; to concentrate and to write without distractions. More than a word processor, OmmWriter is a place to get inspired.

The secret to OmmWriter lies in its simplicity and apparent lack of functionality. OmmWriter Dāna pays special attention to audio and visual effects that contribute to the overall writing experience. We have spent a considerable amount of research time and effort in the audio-visual experience to promote and enhance creativity. Dāna II is the fruit of this investigation with new dynamic backgrounds employing chromatherapy techniques as well as new sound effects.

If you are a scriptwriter, blogger, journalist, copywriter, poet or just someone who enjoys writing, welcome back to concentrating.

What others are saying:

“You either love it or you hate it. Some Cult readers loved it so much they voted it as one of the best new applications of last year.” –John Turnbull for Cult of Mac

“Part word processor, part work of art, OmmWriter is a must for people who journal, blog, or do any kind of writing where creativity and idea-generation is key. Give it a try.” -Michael Grothaus for TUAW

“The modern computer experience is amazing for distracting you from work… Omm Writer Dana doesn’t lock you in a dark room until you force the words out, but rather creates a space in your head that allows you to focus on what you want to say.” -Bill Stitleler for Appletell

What's New in Version 1.3

***For a happy update experience, please read below. :)***

This version has one major change: All the audio is completely new. The reason why is that we no longer have the legal rights to use the old music in OmmWriter.

This updated version contains 4 new music tracks, 3 new ambient sounds, and 7 new keystroke sounds. The total number of audio options is the same as before. All other major features are also the same as before.

If you make this update, you'll be unable to use the audio that you have in your current app store version of OmmWriter. If you do make this update, you'll discover a less piano-based audio with softer strokes and richer textures.

If you want to hold on to the old tracks while finishing a project, then you can always keep the current version. If you're ready for a change, come join us on our new audio journey.

Happy listening and writing to everyone!

Complete list of updates and fixes:

- Replaced original audio with a full set of new music and sounds.
- Fixed bug in automatic backup system.
- Search and inline dictionary are working again.
- Save and open panels fade in animation are visible again.

Perfect for Perfectionists!

I am a perfectionist. When I am writing, it is common for me to get stuck editing a few sentences or a paragraph over and over again, not letting myself move on until I am satisfied, and then still going back to it later. I can spend hours on this time-wasting habit, and sometimes it makes for very unproductive sessions.

Needless to say, I was intrigued by OmmWriter and it’s promise of distraction-free writing. I gave it a try. And I was WOWED. The OmmWriter app takes you to a space that is quiet, introspective, ambient, and 100% distraction-free. All of those hang-ups in a word processor—rich text, formatting, word count, toolbar after toolbar of colorful buttons to press—it’s not there. There is just an empty space, large and open, for you to write. There is gentle music, and an almost-hypnotic tapping sound with each keystroke. You can’t keep track of character numbers. There’s no bolding or italicizing anything. No formatting paragraphs or text. The only thing you can do is write—and so you WRITE. And you write. And you write.

For years, my perfectionist hang-ups have set my writing pace. Now, I can leave those hang-ups outside this app and write faster and more efficiently, which only improves my work. Recommended 100%.

New Update, Still The Most Productive For Me

I have been using OmniWriter for over a year, and while I enjoyed the past audio tracks, I understand legally why they had to change them. Honestly, some of them just seem too intrusive and hope they add more in the future that are unique to the app, but also are more ambient. That said, I love the new keyboard click/typing options and while this seems really gimmicky at first, I find this to be the single best app on my laptop for concentrating and writing. It’s immersive and that’s genius for my mind to freeflow thoughts. I use OmniWriter to get everything out, barely editing as I go and then I’ll export into something else for a more thorough examination. But there is something creative and artful about how this writing tool works that allows me to write and get blocked less. I value this app beyond belief and would recommend it highly to many creative writers.

*UPDATE: Still using this app regularly. I do wish they’d update it with some slight tweaks: More ambient noise filtering. Maybe one or two better keyboard clicks? (Or make a way for users to add their own). I’d also like to be able to choose any font I want, instead of the choices they offer. (i.e. San Francisco would be a nice addition!)

How to Restore the Missing Original Songs!

Cost: $10. Simply sharing what worked for me! Buy David Ummmo’s album (vol 1) on iTunes. Itunes preferenes, import prefs, export as WAV. Highlight the downloaded album and export as WAV. Drag the WAV files to desktop. Run the “Encode selected audio files” script from Automator and export as high-quality. They’re now m4a files which the program can read. open applications folder and show enclosed contents of the application by right clicking. In Contents->Resources, you’ll find ambiente1-3 files and songs 1-4. Simply rename the m4a files on your desktop the exact same as these files. There are 4 songs and 3 ambients on your desktop. Listen to them to know which they are. Then take the v1.3 update music and copy it to a folder for backup, and replace it with your purchased music. Voila! You can now enjoy the songs that were originally with your program. So much better! I am not responsible for any computer damage or data loss as a result of attempting this strategy, or any other issues that occur.
