***New users: Thanks for choosing the new Dana II. Welcome to the family!***
A wise man once said "We are all at the mercy of our wild monkey minds. Incessantly swinging from branch to branch." With multiple windows and applications all vying for our attention, we have sadly adapted our working habits to that of the computer and not the other way around.
OmmWriter is a humble attempt to recapture what technology has snatched away from us today: our capacity to concentrate.
Voted as best new application by cultofmac users in 2009, OmmWriter is a tool that makes writing a pleasure again, allowing users to be alone with their thoughts; to concentrate and to write without distractions. More than a word processor, OmmWriter is a place to get inspired.
The secret to OmmWriter lies in its simplicity and apparent lack of functionality. OmmWriter Dāna pays special attention to audio and visual effects that contribute to the overall writing experience. We have spent a considerable amount of research time and effort in the audio-visual experience to promote and enhance creativity. Dāna II is the fruit of this investigation with new dynamic backgrounds employing chromatherapy techniques as well as new sound effects.
If you are a scriptwriter, blogger, journalist, copywriter, poet or just someone who enjoys writing, welcome back to concentrating.
What others are saying:
“You either love it or you hate it. Some Cult readers loved it so much they voted it as one of the best new applications of last year.” –John Turnbull for Cult of Mac
“Part word processor, part work of art, OmmWriter is a must for people who journal, blog, or do any kind of writing where creativity and idea-generation is key. Give it a try.” -Michael Grothaus for TUAW
“The modern computer experience is amazing for distracting you from work… Omm Writer Dana doesn’t lock you in a dark room until you force the words out, but rather creates a space in your head that allows you to focus on what you want to say.” -Bill Stitleler for Appletell
What's New in Version 1.3
***For a happy update experience, please read below. :)***
This version has one major change: All the audio is completely new. The reason why is that we no longer have the legal rights to use the old music in OmmWriter.
This updated version contains 4 new music tracks, 3 new ambient sounds, and 7 new keystroke sounds. The total number of audio options is the same as before. All other major features are also the same as before.
If you make this update, you'll be unable to use the audio that you have in your current app store version of OmmWriter. If you do make this update, you'll discover a less piano-based audio with softer strokes and richer textures.
If you want to hold on to the old tracks while finishing a project, then you can always keep the current version. If you're ready for a change, come join us on our new audio journey.
Happy listening and writing to everyone!

New Update, Still The Most Productive For Me
I have been using OmniWriter for over a year, and while I enjoyed the past audio tracks, I understand legally why they had to change them. Honestly, some of them just seem too intrusive and hope they add more in the future that are unique to the app, but also are more ambient. That said, I love the new keyboard click/typing options and while this seems really gimmicky at first, I find this to be the single best app on my laptop for concentrating and writing. It’s immersive and that’s genius for my mind to freeflow thoughts. I use OmniWriter to get everything out, barely editing as I go and then I’ll export into something else for a more thorough examination. But there is something creative and artful about how this writing tool works that allows me to write and get blocked less. I value this app beyond belief and would recommend it highly to many creative writers.
My favorite writing app
I tend to be distracted easily when I am doing something I am not enjoying. Sometimes I don't quite enjoy writing or working. I turn to Ommwriter every time I am sliding off the "doing" slope. If I am sitting around and need inspiration to get started again, I put my headphones on and start up Ommwriter. It settles me down and cuts out my distraction and I just write. I just type away every thought I have until I am back on track to get more work done. I can't recommend this app enough for getting through tough writing assignments or business proposals or even tough coding situations. I have written enough in this app to know I actually use it for its intended purpose instead of its novelity.
The new sounds took a getting used to, but I enjoy them after finding the one that sets me in motion, and the drips key sound is my reward for that motion.
Only missing minor formatting to be perfect for me (italics, bold)
it's a beautiful writing environment, but it's so tedious to have to mark words i want in italics as *word* and bold **word** and then go back and fix it in a 'proper word processor'. I know the devs want this to be a simple, blissful experience, but not being able to tap cmd-i to make something (usually character dialogue) emphasized is wearing on me >.>
Btw, it's easy to get the old music. Save the music from the Resources folder of an old version, and rename them as the songs in the new one you want to replace. I have a mix of the two on my Dana II install.
While I was happy with Dana I and needed nothing offered in Dana II (I personally only care for the winterscape background), I felt the need to toss the developer $5 (minus Apple's cut) because this is a lovely app.
