What's New in Version 2.15
PAGE PREVIEWS GO ON A DIET: A number of users wanted to disable page previews. We listened. Same great notes, 50% less vertical space.
"BEHIND THE SCENES" IMPROVEMENTS: Many things changed to make OneNote better. Bugs are fixed and interactions are snappy-er. We promise it to keep it that way.
FINALLY! And it's worth it.
So, I've been using OneNote for about eight years. Since I was on *Vista*! So, I have a *LOT* of notes on my desktop version.
I've been really frustrated with not having an integrated notes app on my iPad. I even tried EverNote, and Outline-Plus (for which I actually *paid). There were good things about them all, but there also a lot of bad things. Outline kept crashing. It got to the point that it literally crashed every single time I opened it, but, would act normally after that.
But, now, Microsoft has a actual version of OneNote that works as an app. All of the things I liked about Outline without the lack of support, buggies, and crashing. Granted, I will say: the "retired" version of OneNote for iPad was friggin' horrible (which is why I went to other apps), but this .... This is worth it.
And it syncs with my computer!i can go directly from my iPad to my PC, and back see lesson. It took it about ten minutes to sync eight years worth of notes, but, now, it's all gravy.
Especially the use of a stylus to jot quick notes, highlighters, changing fonts, and keeping it all safe in a secondary backup with OneDrive. I have always refused to use it, since I use Dropbox. But, now, I can save in Dropbox, and also share it with OneDrive. So, no matter what, my very, very, important stuff is all safe, and still easily accessible.
This is such a wonderful app; I can’t recommend it highly enough. I take all my notes on this - for college, writing, organizing my life, and everything in-between. Some of its best features include being able to add links and photos, the unlimited “paper” size and optional lines/graph paper, the quick creation of bulleted lists, the hierarchy capabilities - between the multiple notebooks, tabs, groups, and pages - and so much more. It can even turn my handwriting into text!* Also, Onetastic (a free add-on), if you haven’t looked into it, holds many helpful additions. The only minor complaints I have are: when I’m zoomed way out, it can be difficult to grab and move text, though this is mostly due to working on a touch-screen computer, methinks… Hmmm, more highlighter colors would be nice (I will use the example of Apple/Page; they do a good job of this with a color wheel, slider, web safe colors [the one I'm most inclined to use], a spectrum, and a crayon box.), though this is quite nonessential. Otherwise, I am extraordinarily pleased with this app!
*I’m the kid who, after we did handwritten essays in class, had to type mine up for the teacher so she could read it. (And yet where my teacher failed, OneNote succeeds.)
Searchable complex notes synced everywhere
I have this running on my iPad, my PC, and my Mac mini. I can make a change on any device, and it syncs immediately to the other devices. As a notetaker, it works much better than any other I have found. It conceptually lists out folders left to right. And then it has notes from top to bottom on the left. It is a basic tree. The columns are color-coded which really helps. And you don't have to think about it. It picks a new color when you create a new folder. Also the kind of notes you can make are varied and excellent. For example, on the PC there is a note clipping tool available. This clipper will grab whatever portion of the screen you want and it will be replicated inside the note. So you can take only the portion of the website you really are interested in, and copy it to your note. You can then do a copy and paste on the URL to click later too to see the whole thing if that's necessary. There's a lot more to say, but give it a try.
