Useful but hardly great
This is basically just an electronic version of the paper timetable with little additional functionality. There is a window to show line service status but it is very slow to come up and the app does not present status changes to you when you open the app. It will push notifications to you for those lines you choose but I do travel other lines - and many status changes appear long after they have occurred - admittedly the fault of MetroNorth, not the app. Two things the app clearly is missing: 1) real time arrival times - all that is provided is the scheduled times - the dispatchers know where these trains are and they could no doubt be communicated to the app along with track changes (anything that would be announced in the station should be in the app) - I commute every day, often cutting it close and knowing about even a few minutes delay would be helpful. 2) street maps showing the location of each station - even Google maps can't find many of these without already knowing the exact street address which is tricky to find even on the MetroNorth website.
Needs some improvement still...
I wrote a review a while back asking them to please stop the app from trying to auto set the schedule to show you home-work morning and work-home evening. If you don't work a standard commuter lifestyle the home-work feature is a real dangerous thing. If you don't notice that it's swapped on you between views you can miss your train. Our home-work schedules are usually only 3-5 mins difference which means if you're not paying attention when you bring up the app to see the countdown- you could be looking at the wrong route. Please stop the app from auto swapping the home-work!! I know how to swap the schedule- don't make decisions for us. We like what the app offers- including time of delays which is super helpful.
Was great, until they changed the schedule for holiday
Used to think it was great, until MTA changed the schedule for the MLK holiday and the app continues to show normal schedule. If I wasn't early, I would've missed it. Had I known they took away the express train for the holiday, would've taken another train from different station rather than this one, which will get me to work late.
The train status isn't always accurate either. I'm switching to another app to see if I have better luck.
