I've been using this app for more than a year. I also purchased its companion app to access my entire iTunes library on my home computer from my iPhone wherever I have Internet service. Whether listening a favorite radio station or listening to a selection from my computer's library, the quality is great and performance is consistent.
Perhaps the best feature of ooTunes is there are real, live persons in customer service with whom I've exchanged several emails & been given prompt answers to my questions!
Before purchasing this app I browsed the stations list at the web site and read other information. I felt if the app is as well laid out and works as good as the web site, I'll buy it. I'm glad I did. It's great!! But even better is the support.
I have a ton of radio/music apps - more than a sane person needs - and this tops them all. ooTunes Radio has many broadcast stations I've not found in other apps' browsers. You can also add your own urls and save them with your other favorites.
Before buying the app, use your computer and visit ooTunes web site. Trust me, what you read there works and works well. Remember, emailed questions will be answered by a human being not a computer response!
A very happy iPhone five user
I have been a TuneIn radio user for the last two years. Although the program is really good unfortunately they seem to be blocking more and more channels from being available so I went looking for a new program. On the suggestion of a friend I gave ooTunes a try and I am extremely glad I did. I now once again have full access to all of my stations without having to use multiple applications. On top of the already excellent database I emailed the author with a request to add a few stations and within three hours received an email telling me that I could now access them from the application. That is really good customer service and a good sign that this application will be around for a long time to come. Lastly I am an iPhone five user on AT&T and have use the application on Wi-Fi HSPA and LTE with no issues. I have to assume that the previous reviewers that mentioned issues with the iPhone five must've been in areas with low reception. I do look forward to a future update that allows full-screen access on the iPhone five however that in no way is interfering with the programs usability. This purchase was well worth the money.
Limited recording functionality
This is a nice radio app, but you can get those for free!
At the price and given that "recording" is in the title, I expected better from the recording side. In truth, recording is really the same as alarm clock - you can set a time at which the app will begin playing a particular station. Note that it PLAYS it - so remember to turn off the sound if you want to time shift a 3am program to sensible listening time!
Yes, you can set a duration so it's a bit better than just setting an alarm - but you can only set a single recording event, and you can't set daily repeat or anything like that. So if you want to record a program each day, you have to reset it every day.
Also, since you don't set a date but only a time, you cannot plan a recording more than 24 hours ahead.
I'd very much like an option to silence playback when a recording is scheduled; right now with playback during record, I don't think I can use it.
I'd also like an option to re-schedule automatically (daily, weekdays, something, anything), and to schedule more than one recording too. But a single silent record would go a long way to getting extra votes from me!
