Optimism is a mood charting app that helps you develop strategies for managing depression, bipolar or other mental health conditions.
*Note: a network connection is needed to use this app.*
The app helps you to:
- develop and monitor health strategies
- learn the “triggers” of a decline in your mental health
- recognize the early warning signs of a decline.
Detailed charts and reports are available within the app or by immediate email delivery. These form a feedback loop, providing concrete starting points for exploring things that are affecting your mental health.
The charts and reports can be invaluable for working with a health professional. They provide a detailed history that is fast and easy to review.
The Optimism app is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The advice of a qualified health professional should always be sought for questions regarding a medical condition.

Great app, but UI needs work
This app has helped me a lot with tracking emotional triggers, treatment strategies, and other data as I try to find the best way to manage my depression. I love that the app can create charts and graphs; I'm able to see how my mood changes over the course of several days. However, the app itself has a few issues that make it difficult to use. Sometimes, I'm not able to completely scroll down to the end of a page, so I'm not able to enter in all of the data for the day. I've also had trouble closing out of the generated graphs; it's almost as if the iPhone's UI is covering up the "close" button, so I end up having to quit the app to get back to the main menu. These seem to be minor issues, though, so if those could be fixed in a future update, then this app would definitely reach its full potential as a very useful mental health tool!
Great Tool for Understanding Daily Patterns
A great app... I really appreciate that it syncs with the app on my PC. On the PC it was easy to modify different areas that I want to track and remove those that don't pertain to my situation. The ability to customize these is really helpful and makes this app an extremely useful tool in tracking and managing my BP1... I would agree with a few others about the charts, but my suggestion would be to have a limited number of each category that you can select to be tracked in an additional chart. Maybe by putting a radio button next to each area and limiting the number of areas to 3 in each section (Stay Well, Triggers, Symptoms). Of course that would just be gravy on a great app... Thanks for putting this together, it really is benefiting others like me...
I found this application better then the DBSA App to track my health and well-being, mood, triggers, etc. One thing I would like to see in the charts is not just the overall mood, but a break down of anxiety levels, depression, suicidal thinking... So I can better see the correlations and patterns in order to better manage my bipolar disorder. I can do this in Excel on my own, but this app makes it extremely easy… And with a little extra programming it could become something even more robust. Thanks!
