Got the remote feature to WORK! Now it’s the perfect app!

I’ve had this app since it came out. The good is
1. Can watch baseball games outside on iPads.
2. Great clarity
3. Turns iPad into a tv.
4. Can record shows thru the app.

Now, the problem I had:

The remote control feature. While I could change channels and mute, I was unable to INCREASE or DECREASE the volume.

It would show on the t.v. That the volume is being changed...

But it didn’t change.

Tonight I made certain everything was right. Today I also switched from Scientific Atlanta boxes to Samsung boxes.

On the set up box, for audio, it’s set to Dolby.

I’ve always had these settings with previous boxes.

Decided to try it again.

Set Optimum app remote on iPad.

Mute worked.

Increased volume suddenly worked as did decrease volume.

FWIW: all my boxes are connected with HDMI cables and some forums said this doesn’t let the volume work on the app’s remote. That information is not correct. It works with HDMI.

I think the older set top boxes were the problem.
The updated Samsung boxes allow me to use the remote feature to increase, decrease volume now.

What did they do!

This free app can be used to control your Optimum cable box. Change channels from your easy chair, record a show without getting up! Yadda yadda! When I first “got cable”, WI-FI routers were NOT being given away. I had to install my own to get this app to work. But then, I also am NOT being used to contribute to their “free” hot spots. Hot spots that no longer support two of my mobile devices. Caveat emptor.

What this program does especially well is scopus interruptus. It will not display your channels claiming that your subscription level doesn’t include it. Ummm, THIS-TV is a FREE channel as are nearly a dozen others. Try again in 5 minutes and you get it. MAYBE. So forget watching in bed many nights.

One needs to log in to use this app, however it does you log you out from time to time.

Piece of junk

This has to be worst app ever. It freezes repeatedly. I watch a lot of baseball and I'm lucky if I can get a half hour without the picture freezing or the app crashing completely. Of course it usually happens at a crucial time in the game. We subscribe to the entire Optimum package and we updated our router and service last year. There is no improvement in the app's reception so we can't blame the wifi. It's just a really bad product. It's been happening for several years now. Why can't the engineers at Optimum correct this? Get rid of this app and create a totally new and better one. My true rating for this piece of crap is 0 but I couldn't submit the review without giving at least a 1. But I do so reluctantly.
