As one of the world’s leading libraries the Bavarian State Library has compiled a substantial collection of 17,000 Oriental and Asian manuscripts since its foundation in 1558, 4200 of which originate from the Islamic world. The App “Oriental Treasures of the Bavarian State Library” presents an exquisite selection of these holdings:
20 precious digitized manuscripts from the Islamic world, representing treasures whose originals are put on display very rarely. The brilliant and complete digital copies of these exhibits – formatted for presentation on iPad, iPhone and iPod – provide a fascinating insight into the oriental treasures held by the Bavarian State Library.
The 20 manuscripts of this App can be browsed from the first to the last page. Among the exhibits are some extremely precious Koran manuscripts. Furthermore, there are some out-standing examples of oriental arts of the book that are presented as uniquely illuminated digital colour copies.
