Forced To Upgrade And Compoletely Shocked!!!!

I’ve been running Mountain LIon for ages, I think many of us have had bad experiences regarding upgrades and such, so , no need to go into specifics. Recently, Logic Pro X was upgraded, and it was only available to users who have upgraded to El Capitan. I held back for a few months, for, I have such fear upgrading, I’ve had horrific experiences in the past. I called tech support and discussed it with them, I did a Time Machine back up as advised, and off I went. Fearing the worst, I was expecting to go back to my Time Machine backup, I am completely shocked to find that my computer was actually running better than before, I figured lets wait awhile, I dont trust this. Now it’s close to a month, and I am still completely in disbelief, it’s like I have a new machine. All the glitches I’ve been living with for so very long are gone, and there are absolutely no hiccups/problems in anyway. Now my machine is running like a new machine, I cant believe it. I would recommend doing a Time Machine backup without question, I am completely blown away with how smooth and seamless this upgrade went for me, and how well my machine is working.

pretty painless

Updated a mid-2010 iMac (8GB RAM) from 10.7.5 (Lion). Downloaded update overnight, then it took about an hour to install the update. Following that, it took a little over an hour to finish all the necessary post-login processing (e.g. reformat email) before I could get to work. Will do App updates later as I have time. Overall, the update was mostly painless. The only moment of apprehension was when I first attempted to login, and it took the system tens of minutes before it finished everything it had to do before asking the setup questions.

Given the large number of complaints I’ve read here, I have to ask: did any of these complainers produce a bootable image with SuperDuper or Chronosync so they could simply back out if the worst happened? This is just good management practice, I recommend EVERYONE do it. Having worked in tech for a long time, what I can say with confidence is that the three OSX upgrades I’ve done have been easier than any other OS I’ve worked with. Maybe I’m just lucky, or maybe The Universe decided to be nice to me because I always have a bootable image at hand, or maybe the Apple folks really are better than M$. If the latter … thanks, Apple!!

A Nightmare With No Benefit

Since downloading El Capitan, I’ve had issue after issue with my once-reliable Mac. MS Word now opens random files with large chunks of saved text missing. I get random “not-enough-memory" error messages - with most of my 4 GB of working memory free. I shut off what I can in Notification Center, but notifications still interrupt me when I’m working. iCal’s “facelift” makes it harder to read and update, and the highlight bars for single-day events randomly run across two days. Menu items are in new locations for no discenrable reason. The list goes on and on.

Apple has also removed user options with this update. I don’t want Notifications at all. Too bad; there’s no option to turn it off. Game Center? A useless waste of space on my drive, but El Capitan won’t allow you to delete it. Along with a bunch of other crap now incorporated into OS X - for no good reason.

On top of it all, I’ve seen no benefit whatever to the upgrade. The extra speed I was promised? Nope. In fact, my MacBook Air now takes longer to boot up. So far, all El Capitan has delivered is frustration, error messages, and a handful of lost apps that are no longer compatible with this upgrade. Bottom line? If you haven’t downloaded El Capitan yet, don’t. It’s a lot of trouble with no discernable benefit.
