Good. But, Could be Better

I am a family law attorney and routinely recommend this app (and TalkingParents) to my clients. But this review is as a user of this app because I use it to communicate with my child’s mother.

The app is generally accepted by the courts which is good. However, I think it could easily be improved. At a minimum, the app should be updated for use with an iPad. Meaning, it should support landscape mode and it should support scaling. For the price of the app, I do not think that it is too much to ask for.

Once those basic issues have been addressed, the developers should probably look into authentication/login issues, and adding some additional ways to get information into and out of the application. For example, the application could forward text messages to the other parent so that the end-user can simply use their regular texting app on their phone; similarly, a email forwarding could be used for sending messages to the other parent through the app. Basically, while the app is designed as a portal, it could also serve as a conduit for regular services so that records are kept in the app. Yes, some functionality would need to be added or revised but overall, the experience could be less clunky.

Still, I do like the app and I do use it. It has been helpful for both me and my clients. Hopefully, it continues to improve.

Terrible iPad app - I can’t select zero stars....

Ivy League Writer

I use this app because my spouse and I were ordered to by the court as we go through divorce. It is not my choice.

I make manage mobile apps for a living. I would be fired if I ever tried to ship an app for iOS that had so many issues.

* I do appreciate that I can log into the system with my fingerprint, however, if it does not work the first time, it does not let you try again, it just goes to the login/password screen.

* Alerts in iOS work well. I do receive timely alerts when my coparent sends a message

* I can quickly read incoming messages

* not designed for iPad. It just blows up the portrait version of the iPhone app. You get all the elegance of the iPhone UX on your nice big iPad display. This is not good.

* does not work in landscape mode.

* when composing a message ###only one line of the compose message window is visible###! Extra UI in the compose message box takes the top half of the screen, and the on-screen keyboard takes the bottom half. It’s not even a scrollable window.

This app is for couples going through stressful divorces. One needs to be able to easily review a message during composition. The iOS version completely fails at this.

I always use the website to write a message. The mobile app completely fails at this.

I could go on and on.

Do not choose this if you are not being forced to use it. This company seemingly has no competition.

Thank you for your review. The OFW mobile app for iOS for parents is built for iPhone. We don’t currently offer a version of this app specifically designed for iPad. Using the app on your iPhone will improve your overall experience. I will bring your comments to our team as we develop our technology for iPad.

Makes life harder and wastes your money

I do not recommend this app. As other people have said it really is no different from Google or Apple calendars and email. It doesn't really matter what you guys write back-and-forth either because the judge will never see it or care, unless you go to trial. At that point it doesn't matter if you have our family wizard or not.

This is just an app that helps the courts and lawyers make money by adding them onto it (I chose not to do this). It keeps you in a litigious "coparenting" situation where are you are constantly reminded that you are under the eyes of the court. I can't even discuss safety concerns with my ex because he gets defensive since it's through a "court approved" app. Ridiculous.

The app is also overly complicated. Me and my ex have both had trouble figuring out how to use it. There's also no option to send videos and you can only send one attachment at a time.

Additionally, the tone of meter is awful. It doesn't understand what you're trying to say half the time. I'll write a medical diagnosis, and it tells me that's upsetting. LOL.

Finally, this is made me have to do way more than I should have to do. It should at least have an option where you can synchronize your Google or iPhone calendar. Maybe it does and I just haven't seen it. I'm having to put things in two different calendars.

Don't fall into the trap and waste your money.

Thanks for your comment. Unlike many online communication mediums, OFW offers a variety of tools specifically built for co-parenting communication. The level of documentation is higher than that of other traditional email or messaging services, and entries can be generated into clear reports to download and/or print. This allows you to easily share information with your family law professionals when you choose to. In regards to sending videos and multiple attachments, I understand how doing both through the app would be helpful. Currently, you can upload videos and multiple attachments when logged in to the website on your iPhone’s internet browser or from your computer. Also, you can use the Export function on the OFW calendar to export a .ics file of your calendar events and activities to import into your other calendars outside of OFW. If you have questions about any functionality within the app or would like to offer additional feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer support team at info@ourfamilywizard.com or toll-free (866) 755-9991. Support hours are as follows: Mon - Thurs 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM CST, Fri 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM CST, Sat - Sun 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM CST
