Why did the creator of this application, OutlineEdit, come up with a confusing interface far removed from normal outlining ? The online manual tells me I need to relearn how to make a simple outline. I don't want to waste time learning this when there are many more outliners that use a conventional interface.
Developer Response ,
Hello, thank you for your feedback. Please feel free to get in touch via email (see the support link on the App Store), to discuss in detail what it is that confuses you as we want to design an application for everyone. Also, Support and help manuals are available in English.
This is especially surprising since OutlineEdit follows simple and intuitive design principals that are well established by other editors and is generally praised for it.
It’s like magic - Your stuff disappears!
Pretty cool program with a very easy-to-read outline, but then parts of it start to disappear or end up in some random section. Some of my outlines are 20+ pages long so it’s hard to go hunting for that lost section. It’s also very finicky and non-intuitive with regards to the editing features. Sometime it will allow you to change a sentance, then suddenly you cannot. The work I do requires precision and a program I cannot trust is ultimately useless to me. Great starting point for the developer, but needs work before I would use it for anything other than grocery lists or simple things I can live without if lost.
Developer Response ,
I am sorry to hear this - that is an issue I take serious and will look into it right away to fix it with the next update to OutlineEdit. Could you pass along some details on your system and an indication on what caused this loss if you have any? Thank you! Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Elegant and almost perfect
I’ve been using OutlineEdit for about six months for school and organizing programming projects. I love the Category feature, access to so many features with keyboard shortcuts, and just the overall simplicity and elegance (and of course, the fact that it’s free).
I just noticed a few bugs. First, occasionally, bullets sometimes appear lower than they should, and sometimes only the top half is visible. It usually happens when I am rearranging items. Second, when trying to reposition the cursor with the mouse, I end up moving the item instead. Third, when launching the app, if I am connected to a wifi network with no internet, a blank space appears where the window should be and the app freezes up. It doesn’t finish launching until I either turn off wifi completely or connect to the internet. Anyway, these three bugs are annoying, but ultimately I just work around them, and otherwise, the app is great.
Finally, a dark mode and font and line spacing options (for the app or per document) would be really nice.
Overall, a very nice app.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
