Free books are my favorite!

I love OverDrive! I have been using it since 2008 and boy, has it improved!
I am a voracious reader and could never afford to support my reading (and audiobook listening) habit without public libraries, especially on a salary earned working at a public library.
I'm giving it only four stars because in my capacity as digital services manager, I see many people struggle with various aspects of the app and website; thankfully, my own extensive use of the software makes me in many ways uniquely qualified to help patrons in this regard.
One big issue I run into every day is the requirement the user select a category (such as fiction or nonfiction) before applying limiters such as audio or eBook. In my experience, most users know which format they want much earlier than they know which category they want to search in. This is especially true between fiction and nonfiction; most of my reader clients feel like I do that fiction and nonfiction are equally desirable and we'd rather have an option to search multiple categories with limiters in place. This is also true for bigger kids stuck in that middle place who want to search both kids and teen categories as well as for adults who also read teen and juvenile titles (Maze Runner, Divergent, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, etc.).
My personal opinion of the app, though, is very high indeed. Any app that delivers me free books and audiobooks any time right into my phone or tablet is alright by me!

LOVE this app!!

I love being able to read so many books for free. The interface with my local library is great and I'm glad I can automatically download the e-book once it's available. The "History" option to view books I've read is great. Some books get returned to the library before I'm finished (or before I remember to renew them) so I can try to put them on hold again or check them out again. I'm also amazed that I can add more than one library to this app. This way, if a book is already checked out in my county, I can search a neighboring county. No driving around to different libraries!!

My only complaint about this app is that I can zoom into diagrams or pictures. Some of the non-fiction books I read have diagrams, but I'm unable to see them because they are too small on even my iPad. Some on the fiction books have beautiful illustrations at the beginning of chapters, but I can't see the details. Being able to zoom into images would be a great upgrade/fix.

The worst! Horrible app

Update: its worse than ever! Terrible product.
Overdrive has never been a good nor user-friendly site, and the app has always been fairly terrible -- slow to load, quick to fail, simply poorly designed and implemented. Since the most recent updates, however, it is astonishingly even worse. Absolutely useless. Not only slow to load, but usually doesn't load; frequent fails. Searches often result in zero hits; absolutely no smart matching built in (ex: interpreting "and" for "&"). Will not hold password/library card number. I sincerely believe that Overdrive is the worst and laziest library-oriented app EVER-- likely because the company has a relative monopoly on library ebooks. The app makers and Overdrive in general should be ashamed. But judging by the fact that the app keeps getting worse rather than better, nothing ever fixed but more broken and breaking constantly, they really do not care. If Overdrive had to provide services to the for-profit sector rather than libraries, they would never get away with providing such terrible products; they'd be out of business (and rightly so) by now.
