Become a reader!

I have loved using this app. I never used to read because I am a married full-time student and I never felt like I had time to read or never had the book on me. I never invested in a kindle either so ebooks were simply never an option in my life. I started using overdrive because my library had digital books on the app. It has been extremely convenient in my life because I can read during breaks between class. I can also read at night without waking my husband because of the night mode.

I gave the app 4 stars because of small blips I have experienced while reading. When after looking up a word the highlight remains and it won't go away unless you open the settings or turn the page by tapping. I also think the tapping for page turning and opening the settings is too similar. I would love to use the volume buttons to turn pages! That would make it much more convenient to read. I am not sure how this feature might affect audio books because I haven't checked one out with this app.

Other than these two small criticisms, I love the app. If nothing else because it has gotten me into reading.

Read to Me!

I have been using Overdrive with Library2Go through my local library for six years. I discovered Overdrive when I retired and suddenly was filling my time with tasks and hobbies that left me less time to read standard or digital books as I had anticipated doing in my more leisure life. Reading, other than professional reading, had been rare in the last decade of my intense work life, so I was looking for a way to 'have it all.' I struggled with the idea of purchasing audiobooks that I would likely listen to only once. So Overdrive became the vehicle for both the digital and audio books I borrowed from the library. I always enjoyed being read to, so listening to books while I garden, sew, cook, clean, drive or exercise has been great. I borrow digital books through Overdrive and read them on my phone. Overdrive is easy to use, and I really don't know how I'd get along without it now!

Still falls short of what it could be

OverDrive is a great idea, but is still hampered (after several years of use) by a forgetful memory. If this app could just remember library card numbers and passwords, it could be fantastic. Use the OverDrive desktop website to look for a book at all your libraries at once, then switch to the app to check out the book, but the app will require you to switch to your password manager to get your credentials—no built-in password access button (which is free to all developers from AgileBits), no Share button which would also work, and no memory of login credentials within the app. There is a checkbox "Remember my login on this device", but checking it does NOTHING: the next time you want to check out a book, OverDrive has forgotten. (They've been trying to solve this problem for 3 years without success!!!) It's now possible to log into Overdrive account, but that login is also forgotten, with no way in the app to use your password manager.
