Bring back Pages 09 - Please!

I have been avoiding updating to the new Pages that was released after Pages 09 due to its so many problems. It does not link text blocks [a no brainer for page layout], I cannot cut and paste into it from other programs as was the norm previously. I most times cannot open from double-clicking the desktop instead having to go into the program and open from ‘file’. Emailing a doc makes a mess.
After having been released years ago, and Apple receiving so much feedback as to the disappointing product, you would think they would improve it. But they don’t. I sometimes wonder if there is a brick wall isolating Apple from its customers so that they do not need to respond to them.
Fortunately I can still use Migration Assitant to bring over the older version of Pages with me as I upgrade computers, but not sure how long that will be possible. I would hate to have to use Word, especially when Apple had a great program in the Pages 09 that they have abandoned. Its not even possible to re-download it from the App Store site even though I have purchased it.
Frustrating!

I hate that I have to use MS Word again because language tagging was removed

As a translator, I work all day in a word processing app and Pages has been my app of choice. It’s simplicity has been a real plus. But since the overhaul from Pages 09 the ability to tag different languages in a single document has been removed. I can now only assign one language to the whole document. By removing the ability to tag blocks of texts in a document with a language, you’ve made it impossible to spell check a document written in more than one language. And unless I turn off spell check entirely, huge parts of my document are marked with the red underline, which makes it very difficult to look at and work with. Streamlining Pages was a good instinct, but removing this feature is a mistake. All the translators I work with have now, begrudgingly, moved back to MS Word. I realize Pages is not an app solely for translators, but by putting this small feature back in the Text section of the inspector (where it was in Pages 09), you’ll make it possible for a lot of people to use the app again.

Take the time to figure it out - it’s there

It isn't obvious Pages is as powerful or even better than Microsoft Word - it does a great job of hiding the features that its competitor lacks. Master Objects was an eye-opener for me; items that appear in the same place on every page - think headed paper. I had to Google how to do watermarks and, this is where it falls down - it doesn't have the online help it needs. Let's have videos, sections on feature-focus and common how-tos in the help.

What's unclear in the instructions is that the features in Pages map onto both the web and iOS versions so, remote editing is feature-complete.

iCloud is hopeless in an enterprise environment but, it's great for personal use (as long as you re-direct your documents folder to iCloud) - as a veteran of Google Docs and OneDrive, I can confirm that, whilst each has its merits, Pages on iCloud has the most feature-complete web and iOS offering.

Last up is file compatibility - today I created a document with embedded PDF vector images placed edge-to-edge. I couldn't figure out how to do that in Word but, when I exported to Word, the images were in the correct position - bizarre but true.

Take the time to immerse yourself in Pages; figure out how before giving up - if nothing else it's as much fun as completing any adventure game.
