Paper is BY FAR the best note / design / paint app I've ever used

I'm shocked that this app does not have a higher rating! I have tried MOST of the other art apps available on the store - and while my work flow may be specific to User Interface and Web design I get a HUGE kick out of opening up the app every day. I use Paper as my infinate moleskin notebook. I sketch interfaces, mark up existing designs (imported from Sketch and Photoshop), ship out tweaks to my team members directly from the share screen. My workflow combines equal parts hand-drawn notes and sketches, and compared to Abobe Sketch, Procreate, and even AstroPad which gives you direct access to Photoshop from your iPad, the ink engine and control over the tools is 1000% more enjoyable from Paper. And I say all of this in light of the fact that paper doesn't even have layers! It's that good of an app. I care about the quality of my lines, the fantastic flow of the watercolors, the ease of moving items around on screen. It's a strong app, and after daily use for almost 5 years now - I still can't find anything to supplant it. While not perfect - it's really close. Keep cooking up the updates, Fifty Three - I look forward to what you bring out of this app next!

No sync across devices, no Mac app? Patrons? No thanks

This is not the award-winning version of this app that many people ALREADY PAID FOR. They ditched that version a year ago and have been struggling to make a notes app that actually makes sense. Now they are looking for patrons? After making it clear they will ignore their paying customers' requests and instead tell you what you want from their app? No way, FiftyThree. This version misses the mark by a long shot. The UI is not intuitive, and many features that used to work quite smoothly are now glitchy or hard to find. The great art tools are still great, but Paper is trying too hard to be all things at once. I still miss the old version of this app. Now, it seems FiftyThree misses the enthusiastic user base they had for that version, who were willing to pay to support their work. Too bad.

The app is supposed to be universal, but it does not sync between iPhone and iPad, and there is no app for Mac. That makes it less than practical or useful as a notes app. You cannot switch to portrait mode on iPad, which is frustrating to say the least. The frequent tweaks and updates seem all about coming up with new names for notes and notebooks, and new configurations for menus, and not much else. Now they want "patrons", and soon enough they will ask for subscribers. This app is not worth paying a monthly fee for, at all.

I love Paper. There are strengths to the new version.

This is still my favorite app. Yes, the new version is very different from the version I loved starting out. But I appreciate how you can view all of your notes in a thumbnail grid. Even though I did love the notebooks and flipping through them, I think it's very helpful in terms of quickly finding something specific. It would be great if the notebooks could be an option along with the current version, but I really like the grids.

I also love the import photo option, because I can design my own templates (any kind I want) and import them as a photo and use them repeatedly in my notebooks. That's become one of my favorite features.

I became a Patron to support new development. The most important things to me about Paper have always been the fun and playful art tools. And those are still here. I'm excited to see where the app will go next.
