Read Me! I'm a genius.
I am going to keep saying this- Paper + Instagram.
More integration. Hasn't any one in Zuckertown thought of this? Maybe you all should hire me as a business advisor or something
I'm going to be patient, I know this app just came out, but I'm going to keep saying it-
listen to me, I'm a genius
I love "Paper" because it presents "Facebook" in a fresh and very exciting way, and there is so much potential for what this app could eventually "grow up" to be.
However, I must say, this app is no where near where it needs to be to fully replace the original app (functionality wise). I repeat, No where near. And I do believe that Mark Z. knows this and did not expect users of the default FB app to completely switch over just yet.
It is however, a nice supplement to the current FB mobile app experience- and again, has great potential. So since it's still a baby (only a month old) I gave 5 stars-
I hope (and I am basing my rating on my hope) that this is only the beginning for this app!
One thing I would like to see in the immediate future, is some level of integration between "Paper" and "Instagram"- I mean, considering that Facebook OWNS Instagram... Seems like a "no brainer" to me, but who am I...
Needs work, a new name, and options
Little things are big things: making this a full-screen app removes convenience in a big way. No clock at the top of the screen means no convenient way to monitor battery life, signal strength or wifi connectivity. But it also means no easy way to scroll to the top of a long article, list of photos in an album, or comment string. And, if course, it's impossible to show Control Center or Notification Center in this app (unless you're on the settings screen). That's a deal breaker.
The name of the app is not apt. It's not a strong mnemonic for what the app does/represents, AND it's stepping on a brand name that's already very popular in the App Store. It's bad business. You screwed up by doing the rude thing. Rename your app.
I've been fighting for years against the "News Feed" vs "Most Recent" setting on Facebook mobile. Doesn't matter how often I set my preference, you always switch it against my will. Now you give me "the future" app, in which I have no choice. You're curating my friends' content, and I don't want that. I want to pick up where I left off. I curate my friends and subscriptions. I rely on the algorithms and decision points that allow me to do that. Don't force me to switch to different algorithms and abandon the decisions I've made. It's not bettering my Facebook experience, it's worsening it.
Current review. Improvements..
There is room for improvement. I'd start by taking what's on the original Facebook app and implementing it into Paper. For example, with the original Facebook app you can edit your posts after you've already posted them. On Paper, however, you cannot.
Also, the notifications system is just... no. Notifications on both of your apps seem to be messed up. For example, whenever someone likes my status, or comments on it or whatever, I'm not getting notified until I actually open the app and check to see if I have any notifications. I know it used to work with your apps but now it doesn't. And yes I have all notification settings turned on on my phone so your only excuse should be that you haven't gotten to it.
I'd like to see things like this added/fixed and I'm sure others would too.
