What's New in Version 2.1.1
☂ Bug fix to support iOS 5.1.1
An excellent app; does exactly what it says it will
I bought this app for a number or reasons. I'm occasionally in Paris and am a macaron hound. I know the author and truly admire his work as a cook, book author, and writer (I'm one myself, but am no pastry expert). Everything he does is high quality and his skill with a camera infuriates me he's good (as his pix in the app demonstrate). The guy is a trained pastry chef and knows what he's talking about, so if I want to know where a great place to buy macarons and I happen to be on the steps of Montmarte, I can find the closest one near me. Or say I've heard of the famous Pierre Herme patisseries and want to go to one, with two taps, I can see all five and see which one is closest (most phones have internet service so that google map feature is incredibly valuable). Yes, I could ask David Lebovitz on twitter where to go and if he also happened to be on twitter, he'd probably answer. But I wouldn't want to rely on that. The app is simple to use; has a cool glossary of terms if you don't speak french; it's searchable by area, by type of product, will suggest patisseries near where you happen to be, and his list of the top 25 pastry shops (in a city jammed with them) is with the very reasonable price by itself. The only downside for me is that he doesn't have one for bistros!
Useful but terribly designed
There is a lot of useful info about Paris sweets but the app is terribly designed. It requires a data connection to function, which is a minus. Even when connected to wifi, the app is slow to load at times. The integration with Maps is not very well thought out.
Great content, horrible app
Impossible to use as every time I try to use any map-related feature, the app freezes. I can't wait for this to be fixed so I can discover new pastry shops. Also it's marked that Au Grain du Blé on rue Beaurepaire is in the 16th, but the map indicated (just before crashing) its location in the 10th.
