Editors’ Notes

This full-featured powerhouse makes it easy to organise, annotate and edit your PDF library. Import files from your computer or the cloud, then complete forms, add freehand drawings and audio notes and more. On an iPad, revising a PDF’s text is as simple as using a word processor, and your original content remains intact. With support for reading files from popular productivity suites, it’s a convenient way to take the office anywhere you go.

Works well.

Don’t do much editing. I suspect if I did I might find PDF Expert app a pretty good note-taking tool. What I really enjoy is the overall reading and annotating experience. The Readdle file management is probably my favorite so far as well (meaning I like it better than Adobe Reader if your looking for comparisons). The Readdle apps seem to do a good job (better than others at least) of having options available in the “Share” menu(s). In short Readdle appears to make a good effort at utilizing the full capacity of iOS 11 as far as this neophyte can tell. Wish all PDF developers would think outside of the PDF-box more sometimes but I’m probably asking for the impossible. Ignorance is bliss I’ve heard. I suspect many problems I and other users have with Apps in general are more likely the fault of Apple’s never ending updates and tweaks which take time to find and adapt to for the Apps. Let’s face it, Apple doesn’t make it cheap to own and stay up to date with their mobile tech if you want to run various types of hardware. As such I’d tend to favor a well established company for my PDF environment. Readdle fits that description as well as or better than most PDF app developers without being a slow moving indifferent 800 pound gorilla (leave to the reader to guess who that might be in this context).

PDF Expert is great; beware serious bug in PREVIEW (High Sierra)

se1961

When I write comments (in bubbles) in PDF Expert iOS, and then open them in Preview (High Sierra version) on my desktop, the entire content of the comment is ERASED. The only way to get it back is to restore a backed up copy of the file.

Originally I thought this problem was with PDF Expert. But I have since tested a number of iOS PDF editors, free and paid, and it happens with every single one: make a comment or note in the iOS version, open that document in Preview on High Sierra, open the comment bubble, and the contents of the comment are gone. This always happens. Not just sometimes. The content doesn’t disappear if you don’t open the bubble. But once you do, the comments are gone, they will never come back.

MANY apologies for blaming PDF Expert for this behavior in an earlier version of this review. This is not a problem with PDF Expert, which continues to be the best PDF annotating software that I have tested. It’s a problem with PREVIEW, the built in (default) PDF editor on High Sierra. But I am leaving this edited version of my review as a warning. If you want to keep your comments, don’t open them in Preview. 😳
