Use your iPhone as a step counter. Pedometer++ lets you easily keep track of your daily and weekly step counts, without any impact on your battery life. You can view your progress each day from either the iPhone app, Today View widget or Apple Watch app.
You can also set the app to dynamically show your current step count as the applications badge. This will update dynamically throughout the day.

Pedometer++ integrates with the Health app in order to collect and display data collected by your Apple Watch. It can display your step count, walking distance, active calories and heart rate data.

- Fix a bug where scrolling the view to the left would keep bouncing back.
- Fix a bug where settings were hard to change on smaller iPhones.

I used to be a Fitbit user and grew very accustomed to the stats in that app. Then I moved to Apple Watch. Ped++ app looked promising for syncing with my device even without it being open.
Since Apple Watch lacks an altimeter I no longer get feedback on the amount of floors climbed. This app attempts to provide something - and it isn't the app's fault that this data really isn't available. I was hoping it could triangulate the location to determine altitude but it's just not really able to do that. It tries, and I at least appreciate some reported floors throughout a day.
The reason for only 3 stars is that this app doesn't report the same number of steps as my watch, it's usually off (low) by a couple hundred. I also use the Stepz app, which is able to sync with my Watch accurately and quickly. But Stepz doesn't report floors at all.
Another reason for the 3 stars is this app doesn't have a dashboard to show badges. Stepz does. The settings in this app mention badges but they are not visible in the app anyplace.
I would like to delete one of the apps but since I paid for this one I feel obligated to keep it. But I keep Stepz because of it's accurate syncing.
I wanted an app that gave me similar stats to Fitbit, and since I hate the interface of Activity, this one looked promising. Hope it gets updated soon to be able to do what Stepz and Pedometer++ do together.
Skips or drops data from whole blocks of days randomly
As the saying goes, "when the clock strikes 13 it casts doubt on the previous 12". This app randomly fails to record and post days or weeks of effort at a go; so you can't rely on it to give you a quality sense of your achievements over time. And this kind of basic failure makes me wonder how well any of its other features are really performing. I wouldn't count on this one! Here's what I've experienced: I don't obsess over my walking so don't check every day. So I might go 10-15 days or more between checks of the app. Inevitably, when I open the app some random slice of time from the previous 2-4 weeks has been removed from the display. It might be three days in Sept or 7 days in February. I carry my phone with me everywhere, so it's not a problem of "getting no data to process". It's a buggy app. So beware!
I wanted an app that would give me an estimation on steps per day, and I found it.
This app does more than just give me an estimated number of steps... it estimates about how far I've traveled in distance per day as well as gives me a visual of my steps in a bar graph to help keep me motivated towards an adjustable goal.
(All without "Location Services" being enabled on my iPhone, which is a big deal to me.)
I read one review where the user complained that the step count was low by about 200 steps. Personally, I'm perfectly satisfied with a pedometer that estimates as opposed to giving me an exact number... I'm aiming for 10k steps per day, and being short-changed a couple hundred just means I'm sure to pass my goal. The app is free, it does far more than a simple pedometer I can clip to my belt, and I would gladly pay a buck or two for the same service.
