Old-Fashion, Penny Arcade Fun
If you've ever been to an arcade that has vintage games like these, you know what you're in for. My two favorite games of the bunch are football and baseball. I especially enjoy the baseball game, although my one wish for it would be that the pause between pitches could be a bit longer, so I can take in the field and see where my players are. Otherwise you feel a bit rushed, always feeling like you have to be ready to hit the next ball. The golf game, while well designed, is alright, although kind of tough and frustrating when hitting to some holes. And cricket? Well, here in the US, cricket isn't a big sport, (to say the least), but those in other countries where it is enjoyed may like it. All in all, it's very much worth the 199 penny price of admission!
Needs a tiny fix and MORE GAMES
I love this little game suite. It's the one app I run most on my iPad aside from e-mail, and it's a constant run on my iPhone as well. The football and cricket games are my favorite. I'd love to see a basketball and hockey game in the same style--Penny Parlor 2, perhaps?
My biggest problem is with the cricket game, though... It bothers me how balls I've already hit can bounce back off a target, the back wall or the wicket and roll back down the pitch, usually costing me an out since I'm dealing with what the bowler is sending me. Is there some way to clear those supposedly dead balls off the field of play sooner, or only let one ball be live at a time?
Although this game is dripping with nostalgia and beautifully executed, you will get bored very quickly. Yes, they have given you different games but essential they're just an extension of each other. The golf game in particular will prove the most challenging and frustrating of them all, as shots seem to land in different places after identical swings. All in all it is well worth the asking price of $1.99 but after playing for about an hour you will understand how these antiques were soon replaced by more imaginative games.
