What a shame to Prokofiev's memory
This story was written by Sergei Prokofiev, one of the best russian composers ever in the history of the twentieth century. One of the 20th century best composers, period. Prokofiev wrote both the text and an amazing music score to go with the story. His purpose was to educate young children in regards to orchestral music and the individual instruments, much like Britten later did with his "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" It was done in a time when orchestral music was a major form of entertainment. Now look at this app: Am I missing something, did I forget to enable the music on in the app? This is a good example of how mp3s and apps are killing classical music. There is not enough information on mp3s about performers and orchestras, for example. Everything is treated as a "song" in the cybernetic world. Now we seem to be going the same route with this app.
In defense of the production, I had seen the original before on PBS, I believe, and it is a great work of cinematography, I am glad that someone took the energy to revive this classic story. But how could this happened, to omit what is in my opinion the most important part of the story? Too much in a hurry to try to make money in the "get rich quick" scheme of the Apple Store? Surely after selling a few thousand copies maybe you could afford the royalties for the music rights? Is that the issue?
Don't get me wrong, both visual and aural are important here, but you could listen to an LP or witness a live performance, like I did as a child and it would work perfectly, because the story is written with a narrator as the centerpiece. A child's imagination can easily create the picture. The opposite is not true. This story app, no matter how wonderful the photography, is dry as a bone without it's music. I have a few ebooks and apps for my kid, some are not even half as good as this one. But they all have music. Some have scores written specifically for the app. Peter and the Wolf already has a score!
Please developer, I implore you to update this legendary story with its original music, as intended by the composer. I want my four year daughter to have the same wonderful experience I and others had as child. I will be grateful and so will Sergei Prokofiev.
No music; misses the point of basing a story on Prokofiev's classic.
