Ohh memories. To those claiming the game "froze"... You didnt happen to accidentally pause it did you? The original game on genesis, when you'd hit the start button the game would pause.
Edit: ooooh yeah I did have one freeze up while in the midst of giving an item from one character to another while on dezo. Definitely not just a paused game. I had just saved with the visaphone so no big loss luckily.
I wish they would port the original phantasy star which has a far better story and balance across three planets.. Cooler dungeons too. Still how can I complain.. I never dreamt this possible in 1989
So happy to see one of my all-time favorite RPGs on here!! Thank you Sega!!
Even though this app saves your progress automatically, make a habit of saving via Data Memory. I ran into a pretty horrible bug where I got stuck in the equipment menu and could not exit out of it. The app saved my progress as the menu was open so when I tried to close the app and reopen it, I was still stuck. Luckily I was able to load my data from Data Memory to get out of it. If I had not done that I would have had to start all over again and I would have been very, very angry.
Classic awesome RPG
This is a very good, but not excellent port of one of the absolute best early console RPG's. The touch controls could have been greatly improved, so unless you're accustomed to old-school d-pad and button inputs (like the Sega Genesis), you'll probably feel like this game "moves slowly". This game was literally a decade (or more?) ahead of its time when it was originally released. If you're looking to see what the roots of modern RPG's were like, this is an excellent game to experience.
One complaint: toward the very end of the adventure (in this version/port), using the Neisword as an item (to escape the dungeon) consistently causes the game to freeze-up/lock. Not cool!
