Quite simply the most efficient, easy-to-use, most powerful audio CD ripping and encoding application out there. Here's why:

Simultaneous encoding to 7 formats:
Phile Audio will encode to all of the most popular audio file formats: MP3, MP4-AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Apple Lossless, WAV and AIFF. You can specify one or more encoding formats before ripping, so you only have to rip once. Archive a copy of your CD collection in a lossless format, such as FLAC or Apple Lossless, and encode a smaller, compressed copy for your portable media player. Phile Audio will import iTunes-supported file formats automatically, saving you a manual step if you want to import to iTunes.

Simultaneous ripping from multiple CD/DVD/BD-ROM drives:
Phile Audio will rip from as many drives as you can hook up to your computer, simultaneously. While one disc is ripping, you can be entering the information for another one. This is a huge advantage for your CD archiving workflow, as you don't have to wait as long for discs to finish ripping to move on to the next one.

Multiple options for cover art:
Phile Audio allows you to drag and drop cover art files from a web browser or your computer directly into the application, or, import your images from a digital camera or memory card with the built-in camera device browser. There's even an interface to use your scanner to scan your cover art directly into your disc information! No other software offers this degree of integration for your cover art!

Retrieve CD information from the FreeDB online database:
Phile Audio automatically identifies and retrieves your discs information from the online FreeDB database. This huge resource is sure to find disc information for most of your CDs

More information can be input up-front:
In addition to the extensive options for cover art, Phile Audio allows you to enter individual years per track, composers, groupings, gapless tags, compilation tags, disc numbering (if part of a multiple-disc set), comments and lyrics for supported encoding formats. You don't have to revisit your encoded files from other software to add these tags. You can do it all right before ripping, a huge time-saver!

Customizable file naming:
For those that are not importing into iTunes or to a non-taggable format, keeping file names in a usable format can be a real pain. Phile Audio allows you to customize the exact file name convention based on disc and track information to fit your needs.

Efficient encoding:
Phile Audio detects how many processors are in your computer and runs encoding jobs simultaneously on all multi-core processors. Encoding happens in the background, so your discs can rip as fast as possible without being encumbered by potentially slow encoding times. You can pause encoding if you need the extra processor power for another application. You can even close the application in the middle of encoding a batch of discs, and Phile Audio will remember where you left off. Very handy for users on-the-go!

Real-time status:
When ripping discs, Phile Audio gives you an indication of your drive's DAE (Digital Audio Extraction) or "ripping" speed. This serves as a benchmark for your drive. While encoding, the status of all of your encoding jobs are easily seen and understood.

We encourage you to give Phile Audio a run through your CD collection. You'll wonder how you ever did without it, especially if you have multiple fast disc drives!

*please note: Phile Audio does not ship with an MP3 encoder, however, we provide information and automatic application support for retrieving an MP3 encoder. This is due to patent restrictions on MP3 encoders. To keep the price of Phile Audio at an affordable level, we opted to allow you to choose to use MP3 or not, and to choose which MP3 encoder you would like to use.

Everything I could want

This app does everything I need in a simple CD ripper. I can easily change the artist, track, year, album artwork, etc. and it gets the tracks names and everything from iTunes. It’s simple and supports all of the file formats I need. A lot of nice little features make it easy to use, such as the fact that you can get the album artwork from your scanner in the app, or the fact that it automatically ejects the CD after it’s done. I’ve used this software for almost all of my CDs and I couldn’t be happier with it. I’m sure some more experienced audiophiles would want more control and options, but this app is perfect for me. I use it to rip FLAC files for my Fiio X3.

It needs a little work

I bought this in hopes of finding a simple way to import my music into iTunes using something other than the Gracenote DB. While the program will fetch the info from elsewhere, the iTunes integration does not work at all. So I end up with files that must be manually added to iTunes, defeating the entire process. The program also does not autolmatically add cover art. It must be found or made on your own, then manually added to the file. It will not overwrite/add cover art to iTunes at all. Bottom line: I would not use this if you plan on using iTunes as your player until they figure out how to integrate properly.

Works as stated; a decent simple FLAC ripper for Mac

I use Phile Audio for well over a year to rip my jazz CDs to Flac. It works fine; I have no freeDB issues (occasionally it may not find some CD but I think you can solve that easily). It is fairly fast. I wish there were more FLAC options but for my audiophile needs, it is a much preferred alternative to geeky tweaks that need you to adjust parameters or run scripts etc. I just wanted a decent PC-like ripping programme where you just pop in your CD...and this is my default. I hope improvements in functions are made regularly.
