Works well with iPhone X
I have been using this app for five days and it performs as promised. It is basic and allows volume control (joint and split) and program selection, but this is very convenient. I had no difficulty pairing these aids with my iPhone X.
The Phonak aids also allow Bluetooth streaming for phone calls (one ear only) and the audio quality is good. I have been told that the sound from the built in mic sounds good to the person on the other end of the call. The Bluetooth pairing will not allow streaming of music or sounds from other apps, only phone calls. This is not a big deal to me but might be important to others considering Phonak aids and this app.
The only glitch I have encountered is the interaction of the Bluetooth connected aids and my in-car Bluetooth connection to my phone. It almost appeared that both were trying to connect when I received a call in my car. After I manually selected the car connection it worked fine. I’ve only received one call in the car so far so I don’t know if this was an isolated situation.
All-in-all, I’m pleased with this app so far and enjoy the convenience of being able to use my iPhone to control some of the basic features of my Phonak hearing aids.
EDIT: After more use I continue to find this app reliable and easy to use. I discovered this morning that it also works with Siri. When I activate Siri her voice streams in one ear and she uses the mic built into the aids to receive commands.
So sad that Phonak can’t get this right
I am on my second set of Phonak hearing aids and they do a great job in improving my hearing.
Before I purchased this second set, I wanted a set I that could use my iPhone with for phone calls and streaming music without a pendant. I tried widex and Resound but both had issues with the reason I have hearing aids, HEARING! They did get the link to the iPhone right but the hearing part was a problem, mostly distortion that my audiologist could not solve.
Decided to go back to Phonak. Alas Phonak can’t get link to iPhone. They use the old ancient classic Bluetooth connection and only support phone calls. No streaming audiobooks, music etc. worse yet this app can’t even maintain a Bluetooth connection to aids reliably. Most the time it says ‘connecting’ but often never completes the connection or only one connects. I have tried tried reinstalling the app, deleting the Bluetooth devices and using the app to recreate the connection. All to no avail.
Recently I upgraded to a new iPhone 8 from a 6s, but even that made know difference.
Seems as Phonak releases new versions it only gets worse! Geezzz...this is not rocket science!
I think if I could I would just return them and get my money back and just use my 5 year old aids.
Switched to other tv connected
I have two phonak tv connected.
Even if I take it off automatic it still every few minutes switches to a tv about forty feet away instead of the tv within 10 feet.
