Photo Fixer hits #5 in iPad Photography in it's first week!
Photo Fixer is an exciting new image processing application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad that allows you to easily remove unwanted items from your photos! Unlike some other retouching apps which simply crop out an entire slice of the photo, Photo Fixer uses advanced algorithms to actually fill in the background with appropriate textures for that area. Photo Fixer has brought the magic of content aware fill to the iPhone! Check out the sample images below to see the power of Photo Fixer!
Photo Fixer is simple and fun to use. Simply start the app and touch the 'load' button to load a picture from your library. Second, zoom, pan and select the item which you want to remove. Third, touch the 'erase' button and review your results. If you wish to save the image, simply tap the 'save' button. Photo Fixer always creates a new file and never overwrites your original.
After removing an item, Photo Fixer will highlight the affected area with a green box. At this point you have a few options:
Like the results?
Simply tap the 'Save' button to save the photo (Don't worry, the green box will not be saved).
Close but not quite?
Let Photo Fixer try again by simply taping the 'erase' button again. Your results will be slightly different with every run.
Want to remove more?
Press the 'select' button and repeat!
Photo Fixer does a great job removing facial blemishes. Fix up your photo before sending to your firends!
Photo Fixer works best removing items that are on top of some sort of texture like grass, wood, leaves, or water. Removing items on top of a very complicated background is possible, but needs to be done piecewise.
The larger the item you select, the longer it will take to process. Try working with smaller selections for better performance.
Photo Fixer intentionally places no limits on the file size that it will load. Note that older devices have less RAM and may not support extremely large files. All devices work great with photos taken by that device.

What's New in Version 1.2
This version fixes compatibility issues with the iPad2 and incorporates minor bug fixes across all platforms.
Not bad but...
I use both Touch Retouch and Photo Fixer. In general TR is somewhat better, however, TR will provide ONLY one solution for a fill. There are situations where PF has provided a better result. The secret is you have to keep hitting the process button repeatedly, because the app uses a random seeding algorithm and the results will vary each time you try. I've hit that button 20 times before I got just the natural look I wanted.
I do wish we could choose a few of these results and then evaluate them before export. A "contact sheet" of several possible variations to choose from would be helpful, since you cant backtrack through them currently. You can of course, save each one to the photo roll, so this isn't a huge deal, but I'd just as soon pick a favorite seed before leaving the app instead of having to sort them out in the photo roll. But this is a minor point.
A smart wand selection tool would also be an improvement. Please see the mask selection tools in my favorite photo app: PhotoWizard. Those selection tools would be really helpful here.
But the biggest problem with PF is that it reduces the resolution of your files!!
Most of the higher resolution files I start with get exported to about 1600 x 1200. This is really the deal breaker, and a major disappointment. This really needs to be fixed; other improvements in the algorithm and GUI can happen in time but this one really needs to be addressed first.
Useful content aware fill for quick mobile retouching
Photo Fixer quickly and easily removes unwanted details from your images by statistically sampling them and creating new information to hide unwanted details with convincing substitutes. (Photoshop users will recognize this as Content Aware Fill. Not surprisingly, Photoshop, the program not the app, does a better job, but it doesn’t do it on mobile devices.)
This technology does best when replacing image content with general textures rather than more specific patterns. Repeated or multiple applications may be necessary to get the best results.
Magically remove lens flares, blemishes, unwanted objects and much more with minimal effort. Photo Fixer is certainly one of the best retouching softwares available on mobile platforms.
I'm a picture collector mostly transportation cars, planes, etc... And my biggest gripe is most transport pics have people in them, so that limits what i am willing to keep to about 20% of what i find. If i get a pic of a sweet car i don't want some's ugly mug ruining it. And i can't photomanip like a pro so this does good enough. So that's another 60% estimate of pics i can keep now.
