PhotoSweeper will help you if:
• You take a series of shots of the same scene trying to get the perfect one.
• You edit photos with applications, such PhotoShop, Pixelmator, etc., and make backups just in case.
• You have photos scattered on external hard drives and local disks, in iPhoto, Aperture or Lightroom libraries.
• You have a mess in your photo collection or just want to free disk space by removing junk photos.
• Easy to find photos
Just drag and drop folders to allow PhotoSweeper to find all photos inside. Add more photos from your iPhoto, Aperture or Lightroom library via the Media window.
• Flexible comparison settings
Use 6 different methods to find similar or duplicate photos, even those edited in external programs such Photoshop, regardless of image size or format.
PhotoSweeper was developed to be extremely fast at comparing large number of photos. Using efficient caches allows you to make the next comparison much faster. You have an opportunity to regroup the results on-the-fly by changing a matching level of similarity.
• Easy to manage photos
Review results in "Face-to-Face" or "Groups" mode. Put photos into a virtual container, "Box". Delete, move, or copy photos from the Box. Bulk rename photos while copying or moving.
• Great photo browsing
PhotoSweeper provides an up-to-date photo browser with such features as: fast loading of thumbnails, Quick Look preview, drag and drop support, showing paths, ratings, labels, etc. The "Image Info" panel shows more detailed information, including histogram and image metadata (EXIF, IPTC, etc.).
A comprehensive user manual is available in the Help menu.

Works Better Than I Hoped
I have long wished for a tool that would enable me to search through my own collection of almost 50,000 images (plus another 25,000 on various external media) for duplicates by image appearance alone--regardless of size, file type, etc. It seemed to me that this was such a difficult task that I thought it would require a huge computer to pull it off. Well, not so much. Enter Photosweeper. The only similar service in terms of “smarts” is Google's "Image Search" service which only compares photos posted to various web sites. So, imagine a batch version of Google Image Search with controls and looking at only your own photos.
To get started is ridiculously easy--just drop a folder (or folders) of photos onto the app window. There is a slider at the bottom that I call the "pickiness slider" but the default settings work just fine for most work. Once the images are loaded, just hit the Compare button and the app will produce a series of side by side images with information and histograms for your review. You just mark the ones you want to move or delete, and you are done. This app can find cropped images, images converted to black and white or colorized images. Also, you can have it examine images in Aperture and iPhoto libraries. Highly recommended.
Works great on Aperture, iPhoto & Lightroom 5
I had been looking for a fast reliable way to help me find duplicates when I found PhotoSweeper.
Over the years, I had made backups of photo libraries and as a result I had numerous copies of the same photos. I moved from iPhoto to Aperture when I needed more control over the handling. Now I’m using Lightroom 5. PhotoSweeper has been invaluable in identifying and moving all the duplicates from numerous iPhoto, numerous Aperture and a few Lightroom 5 collections into one place where I can hold them for later deletion. Once the individual collections have the duplicates removed, I merge them together to manage them easier. One of which is a 30GB size Aperture file.
PhotoSweeper has poured through everything I gave it and quickly and accurately showed me the duplicates. This far exceeds the other apps and programs I have been using previously.
I highly recommend PhotoSweeper to anyone with an out of control photo library.
Attention Lightroom 5 users….
I had so many backups and copies of my photos that when it came time to consolidate, I literally had sometimes 12 copies of a crappy picture that wasn't even online shared anywhere. I started using Lightroom 5 CC as my cataloging software of choice (love it!) and this little program is insanely awesome! I told PhotoSweeper where my catalog was and, said find only exact duplicates, and about 60% were marked. I skimmed through and it did an amazing job of finding the exact copies. I selected the "Move to Trash" option (scary at first), but then the application simply flags the photos IN LIGHTROOM as rejected and puts them in a smart collection. The photos are not actually moved to trash on the system, just in my catalog. BRILLIANT! 6 Stars, if I could!
