If you use your camera for taking notes, like photos of whiteboards, ads, notes, posters, receipts, business cards etc, PhotoText will certainly ease your life. No more pen and paper needed! PhotoText is the perfect tool when an OCR app is not working well or is too time consuming.
If you have ever tried to recall a phone number from a photo in your phone, you understand the difficulty of trying to memorize a phone number in order to make a call.
Open the Photo app ... find the photo, zoom, rotate, memorize, memorize ... start the Phone app ... recall number, start typing the number ... Aaaargh! ... back to the photo app ... Help! - PhotoText to the rescue!
Use PhotoText to open a photo and then simply type the text of interest from the photo. Zoom, swipe, pinch, rotate to select the area of interest.
Use the text you wrote to initiate a call, create a contact, create a calendar event, write a text message, internet search, email, twitter. Use copy & paste to use the text in any app. Open maps from latitude/longitude data or an address.
PhotoText requires manual input of the text, as it doesn’t have an OCR (optical character recognition) feature, so don’t expect it to do all of the work for you ;)
Photo notes will be more useful than ever. This is an app that should come standard with every cellphone.
Note: PhotoText is ...
- Not a photo labeling app!
- Not an OCR app!
- Just the perfect tool when you need to read and type text from a photo!
What's New in Version 2.1
- Numeric keypad. Makes it much easier to enter phone numbers.
- Button to toggle between keyboard and numeric keypad.
- Moved action button to the top of the screen.
- Share app to friends via email, text messages or Twitter.
It's one of those apps that you absolutely need when dealing with lots of visual text that OCR cannot read. I use it to scan business cards, notes written to me, contact info from napkins, etc., so I can transcribe them into my phone, and not need to keep scraps of paper around.
EDIT - Mar 8, 2013
I'm docking two stars because it is in desperate need of an update for iOS 6, and the iPhone 5. If the developer can update his navigator app, he should update this one. I bought it when it wasn't free.
Although the name is somewhat Misleading, the app is pretty useful. Ever had a picture of info you needed to relay into a message? Well, with this app, you can open the picture with this app, jot down the info, copy it, then move along with what you needed to do instead of going back and forth between your photo album and an email for example. Gets 4 stars from me.
Thanks and apologies
This does perfectly it's job of giving one a simple way of putting into text information in a photo. I am sorry that some have given critical reviews because they didn't understand the purpose of this app. Thanks for giving us this neat tool. KC
