PhraseBot is an awesome language-learning puzzle game to actively study any kinds of words or phrases!

PhraseBot provides a much more engaging and interactive way to develop your lexicon than regular flashcards! It offers a range of modes for different kinds of practice of varying difficulty, to boost your ability up from recognition level through to production level.

Connect word tiles to spell out the answer phrase for the given clue (text, picture or audio) to earn points and clear stages. It is much more engaging and demanding (and therefore more effective) than the usual standard multiple choice quizzes or matching games!

For optimal learning, preview of sets and review of all game items is given, with the progress of each item tracked by a colored star rating system. This allows you to just keep on playing until you have efficiently mastered all the content!

This version includes various default sets (e.g. Spanish phrases, Japanese, quotes, SAT vocabulary etc) for you to play around with. You can then import unlimited flashcard sets on your target topics from the popular Quizlet flashcard site (, for just one modest in-app purchase.

Quizlet has literally millions of flashcard sets freely available on all sorts of subjects, and you can also easily make your own custom sets including pictures and high quality text-to-speech.

Great app and support

I found this app through Kanji Connect (another fun app from this developer for studying Japanese).

You can load any list from (copy the list number from url and paste into Phrasebot search bar in My Lists area to add) onto the Phrasebot app and have fun challenging yourself getting points and reaching higher stages/levels.

I noticed that app seems to have trouble if a lot of pics are included with a list, otherwise it works fine. Dev said they are updating soon to address possible issues but honestly just don't import huge lists with tons of pics and you'll be fine for the time being.

Dev promptly responds to emails and has created a ton of lists for studying Japanese that work well with Phrasebot, just search for Kanjigames on, copy list numbers, paste into Phrasebot, add to my lists and you're ready to go. Highly recommend, fun and effective way to learn, anything.
