This is the most popular pinochle app in the Mac App Store.

Pinochle is a card game played with a deck of 9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings and aces. The game consists of a repeating sequence of bidding (for the right to name the trump suit and to pass cards), melding, and trick-taking. Players score points by melding various card combinations and by taking tricks.

In this version, choose either single-deck (48 cards) or double-deck (80 cards), and adjust the rules to play the game as you're familiar with it.

Bidding problem

Main problem with this app is the bidding. When trump iis spades, the partner should send trump first, then pinochle cards, then power cards. This really should be fixed! I find there are other errors in the bidding area. That is where the humans are more interesting

55 yr Pinochle player - not bad for a computer

So I have played since I was a kid and this is not bad for a computer. Yes there are a few quirks on bidding - but then there are those when you play with humans too (a former brother-in-law…never mind). You can set any number of parameters to adjust the game as it suits you and there is a good help function for those learning the game. The auto mode (auto play) function is fairly good - although there are times when I think it will be a close call I will take over and play out - especially in a double suit game. I do that because I count trumps and know that if I have a 10 of trumps exposed and the bid taker has same I need to play my 10 before the bidder does to save that (and of course the points that go with that trick). All in all the playoff runs fairly well. Bidding can be hard to fathom at times - but then I play with a 5 card kitty when in double deck so that opens one up (even a computer) to playing the odds - and sometimes I want to sue for non-support!! But that happens with human partners also - too often in fact.

Really a very good update that just came out - I had made a suggestion when using the last update about one option and that suggestion was picked up in the next release - Thanks!!

Sorry I bought it

I’m not impressed with the AI. Why would you pass your partner a 9 of trumps instead of an ace in another suit? When you have AA,10,10, K, why would you call the suit with only an A,10,K as the trump? If you are passing me an ace in a nontrump suit, and also have the 10, please send them and not a miscellaneous jack in yet another suit. I undertand that passing counters can be problematic, but most bidders want to be void in a suit, so receiving a miscellaneous bunch of loser cards is frustrating! If you can’t make my hand strong, then at least try to make a second suit long for me! In addition, I played one game where East took the bid in CLUBS. West was holding THREE legs of the pinochle. West passed his partner ONE queen of spades!!! Are you kidding me????

In addition, I purchased this app because it was by the same maker as the one on my iPhone, but strangely it is not the same game. For example, on the iPhone, a double trump marriage can be set to be worth 30 points (which is how we play in our community), but on the computer version, it can only be set for 4 or 8.
