"Picked For You..." 😑
Pinterest (I thought) was created initially for users to find various things of interest to them and add/follow those interests to the boards they created. Lately though, I've found that rarely do I see the people/pinners I have actually Followed in my Feed. Instead, almost every single "Pin" is of the "Picked for You" variety, which all seem to be based on what I've actually pinned in the past, but none are from who I actually Followed, which was the whole point. The algorithm Pinterest uses to track my Pins and Likes is deeply flawed in that the Pins it (vomits) are rarely in line with what I actually came on to find. Why bother Following anybody's boards ever if you will never see them in your feed? What with all the regurgitated and stereotypical (she liked that so she'll like this) Pins showing up instead and cluttering my entire Feed, it's just not fun to come here anymore (and by the way, most of the "Picked For You" pins lead to something that isn't even what the caption or picture details anyway, that or there's a little bubble that pops up saying the link has been blocked for spam)... Seriously, I'm a savvy enough person and I can navigate the web easily enough to find was interests me without Pinterest bombarding me with 'Promoted' or 'Picked for You' pins every time I come on. I hate, hate, hate that. Stop it. Fix it. Change it. Seriously. And put the boards and people I ACTUALLY FOLLOWED BACK IN MY FEED.
Thank you. :)
This app will hijack your whole phone.
I've never written an app review before but this hijacking needs to stop. Why do you insist on making everything go through your app? Google chrome does a fine job displaying pins. You don't HAVE to make me exit out of it literally every thirty seconds or every time I load a new list. I can't look at a Pinterest article for even a second on chrome without your stupid webpage trying to flip me to the App Store to get your app or to the app itself so I can see the same list I was just successfully viewing before you flipped me all around. You realize these kinds of practices are only going to push power-users away right? If I can't see what I'm looking at without going to your app that defeats the whole purpose of your pins showing up in google searches. I'm not gonna go through ten other websites on chrome or a browser then suddenly switch to an exclusive app. Especially one that wants to hijack my phone, open the App Store up for me, make it impossible to use without a brand-exclusive app or any combination thereof.
Picked for you? Board Covers?
I never thought I'd be considering leaving Pinterest, but these recent changes have certainly made it a lot less of a pleasure to use... I open it up, am faced with a stream full of dull stuff, and close it again in favor of tumblr or even less customized, more news-oriented apps like Flipboard.
The biggest part of this is the sudden profusion of clumsily-generated "Picks for You". A few picks here and there would be fine but suddenly they're like a third of my feed, and the algorithm for generating them certainly doesn't seem very sophisticated. Plus, the related pins section serve a similar purpose without making me feel like something is being pushed on me.
Also, the new way of choosing and adjusting board covers is so awkward. It was so much more intuitive to be able to flip through and preview all the options on one screen. It's a detail, yeah, but why on earth would you change this?
