**Massive Update (Including the Next Chapter) Coming Soon**
To tackle this combo of mechanics (platforming, artillery, graphic adventure, turn-based combat) is admirable in the homebrew space, but the game stumbles at every turn.
Let's put the loading aside for a moment, which is impossible. At least fifty percent of your time will be spent staring at a skull & crossbones. As an example, I had to load into a conversation, load out, load back in to get another chunk of dialogue, and load out again. Loading is 5-10 seconds per occurrence, so these instances are 80% loading.
From the often useless d-pad and wonky character physics to the trial-and-error cannon bits, it's all terribly executed. The turn-based aspects are sub-children's-RPG depth.
If every aspect were somehow made enjoyable, I'd dig this. I'm a huge fan of both Sid Meier's "Pirates!" and Bethesda's "Pirates of the Caribbean" RPG. Sadly, most will call it quits after the third 10-second load screen.
I love the cannon part
I really like the graphics. My favorite part is shooting the cannon while the hardest part is the dueling (although you can continue playing where you left off if you die). I didn't experience any problems with the word bubbles. I played it with an ipod touch.
Worth a buck
It didn't work at first, I had to update my iPad os. I thought the cannon part was too hard. It also took me awhile to figure out what I was supposed to do. There's a few bugs to work out.
