Ratings and Reviews
First off I’d like to say that I like pirates. If you like pirates you will enjoy this game. The game has excellent music and an interesting art style. To me it’s presentation seems very polished. I will say that it is not an easy game. It is very challenging which pretty much keeps me engaged. I do have a few complaints. Maybe it’s just me but there a few cards that I can’t seem to use properly. An example would be the one card that says if you get attacked by an enemy this turn you gain armor. This card never seems to work for me as the cards always disappear after your turn and before enemies attack. There are a few other examples but I can’t seem to name them off hand.
I do not think the in app purchases are bad in this game. I have purchased upgrades and gold to get new pirates and I will continue to support the developer because the game is enjoyable. If the developer reads this review I would like to request additional content. Please add more areas and playable pirate types. Also I would highly recommend getting the package which includes the card called “demon blade”. This card becomes very powerful and it got me through to stage 3, which I died very quickly in while playing the blade master pirate.
All in all, I feel like this game is awesome and I hope the developer continues to add new content.
Maritime Slay the Spire
I have played many turn based games in my time and this is one of the most enjoyable I’ve encountered. I never review and I never consistently play mobile games but this game got me to do both. I am by no means a mobile gamer but I think this game is very deserving of 5 stars. Great fluid combat, interesting cards and mechanics, and interesting character choices make this game great. I will say this game is not for those who do not like to grind. It is also not for those who do not like IAP. I think this game deserves the cash I’ve spent and I will continue to support it as long as it is being supported by the developers. The only complaint I have is that the “AP” system seems kind of tacked on. The only real use I can see for it is limiting the amount of gold you have late game so that you don’t have a near limitless supply. Even then, it feels like a very unnecessary addition to the game. From a realism standpoint, even though this game isn’t very realistic, it makes no sense to me why your ship would take damage to the point that it sinks from doing what it was built to do, sail! Overall great game and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a grindy mobile game to sink some free time into
Love this Game
Ever since I bought this game I play it practically everyday. It’s easily only my list of best mobile games, and I’ve had games on my phone for years. I know there is criticism with the difficulty. It is challenging, yes, and sometimes you’re dealt a bad hand that costs you the game. Personally, I think that’s where all the fun is at, and I’m used to this kind of challenge from playing Darkest Dungeon so much. Only complaint I have is that I believe I’ve encountered a bug with the new card, piranha. It’s a pretty good card, but I’ve noticed that twice now when I upgrade it, it still deals the 10 damage as if it’s still in my hand even after I use the card and it’s in my discard pile. I ask that the devs please look into this issue. Other than that bug, I’m having a lot of fun playing this. The combat style is unique and it’s fun toying around with different cars and relic combinations. The music, while it can get a little repetitive, is very piraty and fits the game. Overall, I think this game should be given a shot for the price.
