Ratings and Reviews
Where most mobile games fail, this succeeds. In other games like clash and lords mobile, the game strategy just feels like "Get higher level every thing and kill all that you see." This game actually has you thinking, about what to do and how to do it. Starship combat feels intuitive, with ship layouts, targeting, power, teleportation, and repairs all taking effect into combat. It sounds complicated, and it is at first, but it doesn't have to be: you can make it dumbed down as much as possible. Have everybody focus on one gun? Sure. Only hope to outshield your enemy? Sure. Just want to teleport your guys into the enemies ship? Go for it. Another aspect is the crew to crew fights, where your crew must fight against other crew members. With charging, attacking, and defending being your main options, combat in this area feels surprisingly intuitive. That, and laying out your ship is a fantasy we've all waited for. However, there are a few gripes that I feel obliged to mention. First, the gym: it feels... weak. I send in a troop, have them do the same thing over and over again, and when they're done... nothing. It feels like a waste of time disguised as productive time. But beyond that(and the game's ost that doesn't seem to match it's mood(try listening to the Mega Man ost when playing: thank me later)), the game is well thought out, enjoyable, and one of the most well executed games out there.
Pay To Win Gets Old
This game was fun, but gets really old after around a year or two when you reached top level(lvl 11) and won over lesser ship crews and gears from your opponents - all because you spent more money than he/she. I was stupider than those I won battles over in PvP( players vs players) ship combats because I know I spent more real money than them, but I’m less stupid than those with highest level legendary crews and ship weapons and gears that I lost to. This game is within 4 well developed app games I spent serious money to be entertained for over a year, but in the end the motivation becomes mundane and boring to not care if you win or lose because when you win over opponents that didn’t waste as much money as you it echoes one’s own idiocy for it. Why did I play it then for so long? Because I had fun with another old app game called “FTL” and also I wanted to ‘over indulge’ to get over my wasting real money on app games like this. This very game is the real “cure” for my addictions on wasting real money on anymore app games. That’s why it’s 2 stars from me instead of just 1. About 5 months in after first installing PixelStarships I knew this game app would “cure” my wanting to waste real money on anymore app games. So long and Goodbye to PixelStarships. Thanks for curing my addiction for spending money on apps games! 😄
I personally really enjoy base defense games like this one and Clash of Clans, but I think that this game blows all others like it out of the water! In clash of clans, you can't really control where your troops go once you place them, or which specific troops your defenses will target, but in this game, it's all you. You can choose to target individual subsystems, weapons, and even, to an extent, crew members! You can set up an ai to defend your ship, add stickers to your ship, and change the color of your ship. There is a lot of personalization, which is nice, and just so many feature that make this game a worthwhile download! 10/10 Great game!!😀
(Edit: I do have one problem with the game. One of the things that you can do with your ship, is that you can spend a substantial amount of the games premium currency, and be able to change the color of your ship. I was excited about this, and I saved up to get that. However when I did this, I found that it basically averages the color. For example I tried to do red, and it gave me orange. That is frustrating, and I hope that that could be patched, if this is fixed, I will change my review back to five stars. Please take heed to this devs! Thanks!)
