Improvements and Fixes in Pixelmator Pro 1.1.1:
• You can now expand grouped tools by Force clicking a group or clicking and holding it.
• Export suffixes will now be saved with export presets.
• SVG images will be exported with more efficient compression.
• When exporting to SVG, shapes with center stroke outlines would be exported with square corners, instead of the rounded ones in Pixelmator Pro. Fixed.
• Scrolling the font size field would create undo steps for each intermediate size. Now, undo steps will be created only for the sizes you stop on.
• When using the Slice tool, selecting an object slice will now select the associated layer in the Layers sidebar and vice versa.
• The brush cursor would not update when using a Retouch or Distort tool and changing the brush size in the Touch Bar. Fixed.
• When using the Color, Image, and Gradient fill effects, the selected blending mode would not have a checkmark next to it in the blending mode pop-up menu. Fixed.
• After resetting the style of a shape, the next shape will be drawn with the default style.
• Performance when resizing layers with gradients fills or strokes has been improved.
• The progress bar will no longer be shown when using drag and drop to export one slice with one format if an optimized version has already been prepared.
• When switching to the Paint tool, the brush cursor would flicker if the current size of the brush was different from the size saved in the preset. Fixed.
• The effect handle position of the Focus and Tilt-Shift effects would not update after undoing. Fixed.
• If part of a text layer was beyond the canvas, converting it into pixels would sometimes change its position. Fixed.
• When using Wacom graphics tablets to edit gradient color stops, it would be very difficult to change colors. Fixed.
• When creating a new document from a layer, the layer will be placed so that any layer styles appear inside the canvas.
• Attempting to export a slice with a very long name would occasionally cause Pixelmator Pro to quit unexpectedly. Fixed.
• On very rare occasions, exporting an image for the web in the PNG format with reduced colors would cause Pixelmator Pro to quit unexpectedly. Fixed.
• Some more fixes that make Pixelmator Pro even better. Read the full release notes at www.pixelmator.com/pro/updates

One thing missing….

Zuurach

The last version of Photoshop I used was CS4. Quit it when Adobe went to their subscription model. I’ve made do with Apple Photos. Tried Affinity Photo and it was ok. Had decided that I would probably settle on Luminar for what I need to do which, as you’ll see, is somewhat specialized. I was a CorelDraw user before I came over from the Dark Side and got an iMac I used it for graphic design and image handling. Doing layouts with images and text was a snap. I’ve never been able to find anything in the Apple app world to replace it until now. I’m an artist and I need something that will handle not only photographic image adjustments, but also images of paintings and drawings, which can be quite difficult to photograph and adjust accurately. I also need to be able to combine photos, art and text into single pieces for promotional and other work and finally, with Pixelmator Pro, I once again have found something that will do everything CorelDraw did and much more. I read through every feature section on the website, sat down, ran through every icon in the side bar, playing with different settings, brushes, etc. Piece of cake. Very intuitive for me. Looking forward to using is as a “painting media” also. The previous version of Pixelmator had just enough function to drive me crazy trying to get it to do what I want. No more. The Pro version rocks.
Just one request…please make it an extension of Photos asap.

When will the product be ready for release?

Champion.#2

Today I tried a simple project involing a low-res photo. I just need to cut two objects and swap their placement in the image. I successfully selected, cut, pasted into new layer(s) and flipped their orientation. Out of no where the first layer vanished. When I tride to select all it showed control handles for an invisible object that was in a completely differerent / arbitrary place. The thumbnail for the layer looked correct but there was no data in the main workspace. I verifed the layer order was correct. I verified I had not accidentally activacted a mask. I close the app and reopened —now the thumbnail is also empty. The pixels in the layer appear to be completely gone.

After letting this app collect dust I gave it a chance again. Within minutes I had a vanishing layer. Data loss.

On an aside, even if the app worked flawlessly, the fact that that UI moves around constantly (grows/shrinks depending on chosen tool) means I can’t use this app without feeling a disoriented motoin sickness.

Developer Response

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a frustrating time with Pixelmator Pro. On the whole, we've fixed almost all of the bugs reported to us and a few more that we've found ourselves. However, this particular bug is not one we've come across so far, so if you could contact us at support@pixelmator.com with more details, that would be very much appreciated and we'd do our best to help you out!

I really like this

So I have used older versions of Photoshop and mainly was using Gimp for photo editing. I really like what Pixelmator has here. Good product. I’m happy with it. For basic fixes and enhancements this works. I tested out Affinity and it just wasn’t intuitive. I find the user interface here works for me.

I would make two suggestions to improve: Autosaving bugs me. I find that I mess around with a photo only to find it has saved to my photos. I then have to go in and revert to original. Big issue when I’m working on something I’ve already altered. Becuase this takes me too far back past other edits. I work around this by only messing with duplicated photos. And secondly I would like to see more auto filters in future updates.
