Description

PixFit – the ultimate measuring tool for web developers.

PixFit is an easy-to-use utility for finding dimensions of objects on your screen. It was designed to be easy to use and extremely fast. It's waiting under your fingertips to do exactly what you need.

Features:

★ Measure as you move.
The fastest way ever to measure elements on your screen. Just start PixFit and it measures everything you cursor hovers over. One click and the dimensions are in you clipboard.

★ Easy and simple
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to use PixFit. Just start it, click on or drag around an object that needs to be measured and you're done. PixFit's user interface was designed not to get in your way – that's why most of the time it's invisible.

★ Just works
PixFit is not a plugin to any other application and it works with every filetype you can imagine. The rule is: "If your computer can display it, PixFit can measure it". Our software analyzes the image your computer displays so it will never be incompatible with your documents.

★ Measures irregular shapes
Not all the things that we measure are square and that's why PixFit offers two ways to measure elements. You can click inside or drag around an object to see it's dimensions. As pictured above, the object doesn't have to have a distinct background color.

★ Settings and Appearance
We have tried to keep PixFit as simple as possible so it won't spam you with hundreds of windows and hours of configuration. Just assign a system wide keyboard shortcut, select your colors and clipboard formats and you're ready to go in 10 seconds.

★ Fast
When first starting PixFit you'll notice it's extremely fast. We've put a lot of effort for it to be this way and we're sure it uses the lowest possible amount of resources. That's why you'll get used to the fact that PixFit is the first icon in your status bar – that means it started first.

★ Quick Menu
Most of the time PixFit will be invisible to you. It just hangs out in the status bar waiting for your orders. You can get it to work either by the quick access menu or by setting up a system wide keyboard shortcut – your choice.

Crashes on Multiple Monitor Setups

PixFit has potential. I have a coworker who uses this app on a weekly basis without any problems, and he's who convinced me to purchase it. Upon installation however I discovered that this version of the app is completely useless on a multiple monitor setup. I'm using a mid 2011 MacBook Pro i7 / 8GB RAM with an external monitor. The app will only work on the monitor that contains the menu bar. If, while using the app, you move your cursor to the desktop of your external monitor the app will freeze and eventually crash. Since I use my MacBook's screen as my IDE and menu, and my external monitor for comps and browsing, this makes the app completely useless for me.

Hopefully a future update will solve these issues, and I'll wait until then to give it another try.

Major flaw in this version

I love this program, but version 1.2 has a major flaw: if you have multiple monitors, it will crash. Or at least that's what happens on my MacBook Air when I have an external monitor plugged in. That happens whether or not continuous measuring is turned on.

That said, I like the continuous measuring feature very much. I still would like a threshold/sensitivity setting.

Doesn't work with Retina displays

Snapping to elements doesn't work at all on my Retina MacBook Pro. I need to connect to a traditional external display in order for snapping to work, which granted is amazingly useful when it does. Emailed the developer and unfortunately haven't received a response. Hopefully an update will happen someday.
