Pixie Scheme III implements the "R5" version of the Scheme programming language for the Apple iPad. It contains all required R5 features except a file-system interface (since the iPad does not support one), plus many enhancements. Pixie Scheme III is based on the Pixie Scheme / Wraith Scheme family of Macintosh Scheme implementations, which has been available as shareware for over 20 years. Source code for Pixie Scheme III is available under the GNU General Public License. Scheme is widely used to teach programming, and for artificial intelligence programming.
What's New in Version 1.12
With this release, Pixie Scheme III implements R5-style rational numbers, with separate storage of the numerator and denominator, as long as both are within the range of a 64-bit signed integer. Also provided are procedures for dealing with continued fractions in the context of such rationals.
Good first attempt
Good first attempt at Scheme for iPad, and the best version available thus far.
Importantly the interface displays matching parens, a key feature. A couple of interface improvements would great. In the current version, it is cumbersome to specific what expression to evaluate, and get that expression to evaluate. Secondly, it would be very useful to offer a scheme-specific keyboard.
Saving programs/scripts in a library of scripts is also an important enhancement.
This just keeps getting better
Thanks to a developer who obviously loves and uses his own app.
