Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Plane Finder AR and Plane Finder?
Plane Finder AR is our augmented reality app that shares the data available in Plane Finder- our original iPhone App. Plane Finder (and Plane Finder HD) provide a near real time virtual radar view of flight from across the world and include a great deal more detail that Plane Finder AR. All Plane Finder apps share common ADS-B data.
Why can't I see all planes?
Aircraft must be carrying ADS-B equipment and we must have a feed in the area. (In the US airlines have been slow to adopt the technology but usage is continuing to rise).
What if my area isn’t covered?
We are always on the lookout for more data feeds. Check back regularly to see if we have added your area. You could even help us by running a free receiver!
If I have an ADS-B receiver can I share my data for use with Plane Finder AR?
Yes. Please contact email@example.com and we will assist.
Can I use Plane Finder AR for navigational purposes?
Definitely not. Plane Finder must not be used for navigational purposes under any circumstances
**Whilst we do have the best network please double check coverage using our free app Plane Finder Free to make sure that we have coverage for your area**

Good app with many flaws
I enjoy using this app, but I can't help but notice its many flaws. I would say about 15% of the flights shown have some kind of mistake in the information shown. For example, I've seen planes flying from Dallas to Amarillo and the app lists the flight as Libyan Airlines. After looking up the flight details on another app, it turns out it's actually a Southwest flight. Secondly, in crowded airspace, the flight details get overlapped and there is no way to focus on one. It would be great if you could click on the window and it would highlight it for you to see. I'll keep using this app when I'm bored but I'm hesitant to trust the information displayed.
This app fulfills my inquisitive appetite to know the why's and what's. I live in a medium market (Knoxville) and I am close to several hub cities. Certain times of the day it gets quite busy. Growing up, I would look up in the sky and wonder where a plane was going and where from. Now, I have those questions answered at my fingertips! Also, I have the app for marine traffic. I am on the road over 200 days/year. Going into major markets, this app can keep the inquisitive geek in you happy for hours!
Needs some tweeking. The data blocks are large and obscure the viewfinder. If there are multiple aircraft, there's a stack of data blocks but you can't scroll through them all.
Move very slowly, the refresh rate lags a little and it's easy to just slip right past an aircraft. I don't know if it was a bug or what but when I'm near LAX, I don't see any data.
It's fun for single aircraft but takes some getting used to. I can see this technology 20 years in the future, being installed in the glass of air traffic control tower cabs and aircraft cockpits, as an aid to situational awareness.
