It only guesses at the answer

Fair to poor performance, don’t waste your dollars. I love flowers, take many photo’s, aspecially close ups of single blooms. Even the best in my photo library only returns a 67% "probability". Then it’s asking you if you accept or reject their "guess" (and that’s all it is)! If I knew what it was, I wouldn’t need the app! The supposed point of this app is for IT to tell YOU what the plant/flower is, not the other way around, simply not ready for any App Store. They’re collecting your data and guesses to TRY to improve their app. Essentially you’re paying them to beta test their software. I said it before and I’ll repeat it now. This is a botanical version of Vivino. Why can that app use a photo of a wine bottle label taken in poor low light conditions and return correctly 99% of the time, yet this app can’t seem to rise above a 67% guess? Read all the other reviews, most people are having similar issues and problems. The responses from "customer support" for these other complaints is a repetitious, Steve Jobs sounding "you’re doing it wrong". It’s not rocket science, it’s just a poor app. Steer clear.

Developer Response

Hello Joseph Golden! We are very sorry that you are having trouble, but we discussed this on Facebook. It may not be politically correct to tell a customer that they were "doing it wrong", but in your case, it was simply the truth, and we demonstrated that. Every single time a person writes to the company for help, we show them what they are missing, and they leave happy. In your case, we showed you what you were missing, and you still say it doesn't work. We can't stand by idly and allow you to disparage the app without telling the public the truth of our interaction. You sent us your image, we ran it through PlantSnap, and your photo was identified in the #1 position. Here is that image and the results screen:
We will let the readers of this review decide if PlantSnap "worked" properly. Wine bottle labels have words/text on them. Text recognition and image recognition are COMPLETELY different issues. If plants had their names written on them, we assure you that we could program PlantSnap to be 99% accurate. With 320,000 species of plants and trees to distinguish between, each species growing in different shapes, sizes and colors, you do have to follow the directions and frame the photos properly. That's and read the instructions, then follow the instructions. When you follow instructions, PlantSnap is correct 92% of the time. We don't understand what your agenda is, but it's definitely not learning how to use PlantSnap properly. We know that you now understand how to use the app, but if you have other questions, please write to and/or refer to the below videos:

Super particular

This app sounds great - until you try it out. I had photos (cropped and zoomed per the demo) of 4 plants, out of which it properly identified only one - the pansy, because of its particular shape probably. The rest had more of the round traditional shape with lots of petals - and no matter how many angles I tried all I got was “rose”... in the case of kalanchoe, I sent in the photo of my plant to the customer support and they were able to get it identified - yet it took me 7 tries (!!!) of all different angles, zoomed in and out, foliage or not , to get to their result - and even then I had to take a pic of the EXACT same flower cluster at that same angle to do it. None other clusters seemed to be the same plant I guess?? Then they tell me it’s user error and it’s not eligible for refund - which at this point it’s not about the 4 bucks at all, it’s about the customer support and understanding. They were quick to get back to me, but the answers just were not helpful at all. Super frustrating.

Developer Response

Hello Ira McIntosh! Here is a video showing PlantSnap identifying Kalanchoe:; PlantSnap has no trouble identifying Kalanchoe or any other plant when used properly. We used your own photo that you sent us and got the correct result on the first try, which tells us it was user error. Here is the video showing PlantSnap identifying your kalanchoe plant using your own photo:
PlantSnap is 92% accurate when used properly, and we have a 4-star rating in all countries, so please let us help you solve the problem so you can experience all the benefits of PlantSnap. With 320,000 species to distinguish between, framing the photos properly is very important. Hundreds of thousands of people have great success with PlantSnap every day, and we want you to be one of those people!

This app and support stink - save your money

I bought this app today. I followed the directions exactly as posted. Not a single photo I took of ANY plant/flower was identified by the app. NOT ONE. I contacted support, and after much back and forth, finally received an email that basically said, “it was the number one app in the App Store today” and that I should just wait because they’re going to release an update. So, just be quiet cuz it’s a great app - even though it didn’t work AT ALL, not one time. Of course, when this all began, they said if they couldn’t resolve the issue they would refund the $3.99 I paid for it. Guess what? The issue isn’t resolved and NO REFUND. What a surprise! Save your money. The App didn’t work at all and customer support was completely ineffective and didn’t follow through with what they said they would do.

At the end of the email they did thank me for being “part of PlantSnapp!” Yeah. Great.

Developer Response

This issue was resolved back in October 2017, the fix to the issue was released one day after the problem occurred. All refunds are immediately issued by Apple when requested.
